DOH: Stop spreading Ebola hoax

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health (DOH) called on the public to stop spreading unconfirmed and baseless reports of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases in the country.

The department released a statement on Thursday, denying rumors about confirmed cases of Ebola virus according to a supposed DOH employee named Gemma Sheridan, which is circulating on social media.

"There is NO TRUTH to this report. NO CASE of Ebola has entered the Philippines. The website where the online report was published - Viral Ninja (safeurlpath.com), is a HOAX," the DOH statement said.

The statement further noted that "Sowing panic and fear will only put lives in danger."

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Ebola is monitoring reported cases of EVD in West African countries and is continuing efforts to prevent entry of the disease in the country.

Meanwhile, Filipino peacekeepers from Ebola-affected Liberia will be quarantined on a "paradise island" in Luzon upon arriving in the country as part of preventive measures against the disease.
