DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - Two people were killed and another was injured when a twister ripped through a village in North Cotabato over the weekend, authorities said today.
The freak wind uprooted coconut and fruit trees which toppled onto houses last night, crushing to death a child and an elderly woman in Salunayan village, Midsayap town, in Mindanao's North Cotabato province, police said.
Another man was able to run out as a coconut tree toppled on his house, but sustained injuries, a radio report quoted police as saying.
North Cotabato governor Emmylou Mendoza has ordered distribution of assistance to the victims.
