MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday met with residents of the Xevera Homes in Pampanga, one of the housing projects of Delfin Lee's Globe Asiatique.
Binay, chairman of the Home Development Mutual Fund or popularly known as the Pag-IBIG fund, assured the residents that the government will protect their interest as it pursues the charges filed against the top fugitive who was finally arrested last week after two years of hiding.
But at the same time, Binay urged other scam victims to file complaints against the real estate magnate, who used Globe Asiatique's housing project in Mabalacat town in defrauding the government of billions of pesos.
"Pwede ba, 'yung mga naloko. Maghabla po tayo. Parati na lamang na sinasabi na ang pamahalaan ay walang ginagawa. Wala po talagang magagawa ang pamahalaan kung hindi po tayo magrereklamo," Binay said during his televised meeting with the Xevera residents.
Lee is facing a P6.65-billion syndicated estafa case filed by the Department of Justice over the alleged anomalous loans granted by Pag-IBIG to ghost borrowers who supposedly bought homes in the Xevera housing project.
Binay urged the Xevera residents not to fear since the government has a strong case against the businessman.
"Kayo pong mga nandito, huwag po kayong mag-aalala. Laban ho tayo. Nasa panalo po tayo. Walang dahilan para matalo po ito sapagkat pawang katotohanan lamang ho ito," said Binay, also chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council. - Louis Bacani
