SC asked to allot 2014 PDAF for LGU projects

MANILA, Philippines - A former Marinduque town mayor has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to order Congress and the Office of the President to allocate next year’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) for local government projects.

In a petition last week, former Boac mayor Pedrito Nepomuceno said the PDAF has been proven to be counter-productive as lawmakers are not familiar with the situation in local governments where the projects are located, especially the congressional district whose governor does not belong to the same political party.

“The PDAF has become the most abused and misused funds of all available funds in our government so that we may call it now as ‘Mother of all Corruptions,’” read the petition.

Nepomuceno also asked the SC to declare PDAF unconstitutional.

The petition is the third to seek a similar relief from the SC against the pork barrel funds.

Last week, the SC directed the Senate and the House of Representatives to answer a similar petition of former senatorial candidate Samson Alcantara.

SC justices are expected to tackle the petitions of Nepomuceno and former senatorial candidate Greco Belgica in session tomorrow.
