Peñaflorida's 'Kariton Klasrum' goes mainstream

MANILA, Philippines - Efren Peñaflorida's "pushcart classroom" is going mainstream.

The government, through the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), have decided to use Peñaflorida's concept to provide education to street children.

The program "Kariton Klasrum", through the cooperation of the Dynamic Teen Company of Peñaflorida, was launched on Thursday at the DepEd main office in Pasig City.

At least 200 children witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two government branches.

As an alternative delivery mode of education, Kariton Klasrum aims to reach families living on the streets and out-of-school children, who are the rightful beneficiaries of the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT), an offshoot of the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
