‘Where’s the money from Siman?’

MANILA, Philippines - Questions about the millions of pesos reportedly stolen from suspected jueteng lord Vic Siman, one of the 13 killed in the Jan. 6 Atimonan shooting, have apparently been swept under the rug.

Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, one of the 12 senatorial candidates in the Team PNoy ticket, wants to know if the National Bureau of Investigation had come across this detail.

“Whatever happened to the money?” he asked.

“Was this angle pursued aggressively at all? I think people are interested to know, especially because we’re talking about alleged jueteng competition in the region.”

Angara said one picture that had come out in media showed a bag where millions of pesos were reportedly kept.

The huge bag was inside the car, either of the two Mitsubishi Monteros, he added.

Siman, an alleged jueteng operator, was the target of the supposed police operation.

He was said to be a rival of another jueteng operator.

The accused policemen initially reported the 13 men were members of a criminal gang who had engaged them in a gunbattle after ramming through a security road block in Atimonan last Jan. 6.
