JV seeks more funds for OFWs

MANILA, Philippines - United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) senatorial candidate JV Ejercito Estrada yesterday urged President Aquino to allocate more funds for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are facing criminal charges in their host countries.

Estrada, vice chairman of House labor and employment committee, made the call following reports that some 3,000 OFWs around the world are facing immigration-related cases, murder, theft, and drug trafficking charges.

He said in China alone, 78 Filipinos are reported to have been convicted of drug trafficking and are awaiting death sentences.
