House honors Janine Tugonon for Miss Universe feat

MANILA, Philippines - Miss Universe first runner-up Janine Tugonon was honored Wednesday at the House of Representatives for making the country proud during the pageant held in the US last December.

House Resolution 2891, authored by Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, cited Tugonon for being a good example to other Filipinas.

The beauty queen received her copy of the resolution in a ceremony at the House plenary hall. She was given a warm welcome by the lawmakers and their staff.

Revilla said Tugonon’s “natural beauty, grace, commitment and sacrifice to compete in the pageant, have won her the admiration of millions of Filipinos.”

The lawmaker said Tugonon’s feat “embodies the hard work and sacrifice that she and her supporters made, as she joined the ranks of the world’s most beautiful women.”

“She is an inspiration for every Filipina... that beauty, grace, hard work and sacrifice can make a Filipina’s dream come true,” Revilla said.

She said Tugonon deserves all the praise, honor and recognition.
