Public told not to wear black

MANILA, Philippines - Do not wear black this summer.

Black clothes absorb heat, making the wearer prone to heat stroke, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) warned.

“Let us avoid wearing black, we must wear clothes that do not absorb the high temperature of the day,” PNRC secretary-general Gwen Tang said.

Tang advised the use of light colored clothing, especially for outdoor activities. Sunglasses should be worn to protect the eyes. Sun block should also be applied before going out to protect the skin.

“We must take all precautions to avoid heat stroke this summer,” Tang said.
