Keep gambling out of schools — DepEd

No gambling is allowed on school premises, the Department of Education (DepEd) reminded school officials yesterday as students trooped back to classrooms this month with a shortage of books, but a variety of games to discreetly bet on.

According to Education Secretary Florencio Abad, the popular numbers game "ending" is still considered a form of gambling because it involves money stakes as students bet on the final digits of basketball game scores.

Abad ordered school officials to closely monitor school premises after receiving reports that the "ending" game is now being operated by syndicates. The syndicates are reportedly recruiting students to collect bets in schools.
