Maki says no AI in 'Habangbuhay Pansamantala' MV

MANILA, Philippines — OPM singer-songwriter Maki expressed his support for Filipino artists and stressed the importance of using his platform to spotlight local talent in the music video for his latest song, "Habangbuhay Pansamantala."
During a media conference on May 28, the "Dilaw" hitmaker said that he was hands-on in selecting and recommending the virtual artists featured in his music video.
"'Yung visual lead ko, I specifically told her [na] may mga artists akong napili, na ini-scout ko anywhere. 'Yung mga very supportive, very malakas 'yung drive. Kasi ako, I really support people who are very into what they are doing," he said.
Maki then emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to emerging visual artists, particularly those who show strong passion and dedication to their craft. "Para sa'kin, these people, if they both have the talent and drive, they can do anything. That's why I'm just here amplifying their talent."
He also encouraged viewers to rewatch the 35-second animated segment of the music video, noting that each contributing artist brought a unique interpretation to the song.
The singer further shared that the music video was partly inspired by his admiration for the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once," especially its idea of parallel universes and human connection.
Ahead of Pride Month, he also revealed that a scene in the music video featuring two girls was intentionally included to acknowledge the experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
"'Kolorcoaster' is a very colorful album, so it would be a crime if I will not use the platform to tell other people how it's so hard for minorities to live in the country, which is the Philippines, during the dati pa talagang panahon," he said.
The "Habangbuhay Pansamantala" music video was released on May 24, featuring SB19 member Justin.
