Britney Spears enters rehab a month after DUI arrest

MANILA, Philippines — Pop star Britney Spears reportedly voluntarily checked herself into a rehabilitation facility a month after her driving under the influence (DUI) arrest.
U.S. media reports, including The Hollywood Reporter and USA Today, said Spears "has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility."
The former pop hitmaker was arrested on March 4 for DUI and was released from custody a day later in Southern California.
She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 at the Ventura County Superior Court.
"This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law," a representative for Spears said in a statement to entertainment outlet Deadline.
"Hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life."
Spears had phenomenal early music success with late 1990s hits like "...Baby One More Time" but has largely stepped back from music in recent years.
In her 2023 memoir, "The Woman in Me," Spears said she never used hard drugs and did not have a drinking problem, though she admitted taking Adderall, a medication for ADHD.
Following a public breakdown in 2007, Spears was placed under a conservatorship led by her father, Jamie Spears, who controlled her finances and personal decisions even as she continued performing.
The conservatorship was dissolved by a Los Angeles court in 2021 after a wave of public support for the "Free Britney" movement. — With reports from AFP
