LIST: All-time favorite romantic films

No date on Valentine’s Day? Why not watch romantic films. 

MANILA, Philippines- It’s the week of the hearts! But of course, Valentine’s is not only for couples but also for the singles out there who are still on the look out for “the one.”

These bachelors and bachelorettes may not have a date on Valentine's Day, but that doesn’t leave them with nothing to do that day. What do these romantic films are made for if not to inspire people to fall in love?

So here are some of our suggested all-time romantic films that will make you want to fall in love all over again.

FOREIGN

GHOST- Death can’t separate two hearts that beat as one. This is what the ‘90s film “Ghost” is about. It is the story about the couple Sam (Patrick Swayze) and Molly (Demi Moore) who just moved to New York City. Sam who works in a bank discovers a discrepancy and his search for truth led to his death.

 

Though technically a ghost, Sam does his best to protect Molly, end the anomaly in the bank, and give justice to his own death. And after everything was put in place, the “holy light” appears, and Sam bids goodbye to Molly and profess his love for her one last time before he walked through the light.

THE BODYGUARD- Who would forget the stunning pairing of singer Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in the ‘90s film “The Bodyguard”?

The story is about the Oscar-nominated singer Rachel (Whitney Houston) who has been receiving death threats. So they hire a private bodyguard Frank (Kevin Costner) to protect her from these threats.

As days go by and they know each other more, Rachel and Frank fall for each other. But Frank’s fear that as they fall deeper for each other, it affects his job, which made him decide to end their relationship. As Rachel expose herself more to danger, Frank came to the point of sacrificing his own life to save his client and the love of his life.

PRETTY WOMAN - This 90's movie is about a rich man falling in love with the escort girl he hired for a week. 

Businessman Edward (Richard Gere) is in Hollywood Boulevard and asked for directions for the place where he’ll go. There he meets the prostitute, Vivian (Julia Roberts), who assists him to get to his destination and he ended up hiring her to escort him in the affairs he is scheduled to attend.

Slowly, the two fall in love with each other, affecting their views in life without them noticing it. But with one of them not willing to take a leap on to love, it complicates the relationship forcing Vivian decide to leave Edward.

In the end, Edward didn’t let her slip away and made Vivian’s fairytale dreams come true.

THE WEDDING SINGER - The Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore tandem is one of Hollywood’s favorites and one of their hit films together is the ‘90s film “The Wedding Singer.” 

It is a story about Robbie (Adam Dandler) and Julia (Drew Barrymore) who are friends and are both engaged to their respective partners. But as Robbie’s fiancé dumps him on their wedding day, Julia tries to cheer him up.

As their friendship grows, so are the feelings they have for each other, that’ll be hindered several times because of different circumstances. But in the end, Robbie finally professes his love for Julia in a flight going to Las Vegas, by serenading her with his composed song “Grow Old With You.”

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY - When two people are destined for each other, no matter what happens, they end up together. This is the story of the film “When Harry Met Sally.”

For every five years they met, they ended up hating each other due to their different views in life. But there came a time when they finally became friends, and actually fell in love with each other. An incident cools off their friendship, but became a moment as well for them to realize that they complete each other.

So in that special New Year’s Eve, when Sally thought that it was the end of him and Harry, he appears before her and confesses his love to her.

LOCAL

ONE MORE CHANCE- The John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo tandem is one of the most-loved love teams here in the country. Whatever film they release, it’ll be a hit and one of those is the 2007 film “One More Chance.” 

It’s a story about a couple, Popoy (John Lloyd Cruz) and Basha (Bea Alonzo) who are about to get married. But then Basha feels there’s something missing in her life and Popoy’s control on her doesn’t help in finding that missing piece. So she decided to end the relationship.

Basha goes her own way while Popoy was left devastated of losing her. He tries to find a new love, yet still nothing compares to the love she has for Basha. As Basha finally fills the missing piece in her life and Popoy realizing his mistakes, they choose to finally get back together and continue the love they thought they’d lost forever.

MILAN - A love which started with them meeting in the beautiful country of Milan, with Lino (Piolo Pascual) looking for his wife and Jenny (Claudine Barretto) working for her family. 

But as days pass by and they get to know each other more, Lino and Jenny find themselves falling for each other, and their feelings compromising the real reason why they’re in Milan.

Lino finds out that his wife is already married to an Italian guy and realizes that it was Jenny he loves. Yet Jenny has already given up on him, so he goes after her and proves that more than anything, it was her love that he wants.

GOT 2 BELIEVE - Who would forget the love team of the reel and real partners Rico Yan and Claudine Barretto? They are one of the hottest love teams of the ‘90s, which aside from their TV shows was proven through their film “Got 2 Believe.” 

It is a story about Lorenz (Rico Yan) and Toni (Claudine Barretto) whose first meeting didn’t go well. But after they made a deal—Toni agrees to Lorenz's request to publish her candid stolen photos, but he must first look for a perfect partner for her.

But as they fulfill each other’s requests and discover things they never thought each other has, they fall for each other which at first they thought is impossible to happen.

A VERY SpeCIAL LOVE - Who didn’t get hooked to the John Lloyd Cruz- Sarah Geronimo film saga of “A very Special Love”? This three-part movie sure had a following since the film first came out. 

The first film talked about how Miggy (John Lloyd Cruz) and Laida (Sarah Geronimo) first met each other. Laida, who has a big crush on Miggy, was lucky enough to eventually have him as a boss. The guy with a heart of stone was broken down by a sweet girl whom he fell head over hills for.

The second series titled “You Changed My Life” talks about the struggles of Miggy and Laida as a couple. Their different priorities affect their relationship and almost broke them apart. But in the end, they settled their differences and stayed in each other’s arms.

The last installment of the film is “It Takes a Man and a Woman,” where the fans’ hearts broke as they found out that Miggy and Laida had separated. There had been changes in their lives, but one thing never changed—the lasting love they have for each other.

PAANO NA KAYA?- A girl falling in love with her best friend, this is the story of the Kim Chiu- Gerald Anderson starrer film “Paano na Kaya?”

Mae (Kim Chiu) is Bogs’ (Gerald Anderson) best friend who is secretly in love with him. She even helps him get the attention of the girl he loves until they became a couple. But after the other girl left Bogs, Mae comforts him and eventually becomes his girlfriend.

But when the other girl comes back in their life, Bogs gets confused with his feelings, and makes Mae feel that he never really loved her. But when Bogs finally realizes that it was Mae he loves, he’ll do everything just to have her back.
