Don’t get Keann Johnson wrong when he said he is temporarily putting his studies on hold to attend to his showbiz commitments, especially now that he is one of the members of the Squad Plus. He stressed that he remains a staunch believer in education no matter what, with a promise to himself that he would never give up his studies for acting.

“I’ll be perfectly honest, I’d still choose (to pursue) medicine because that was my original dream since I was a child and I can’t steer away from that just because something else entered my life. But that doesn’t mean that I will always stick to that one dream,” responded Keann on the question regarding his statement during one of his online interviews that he will prioritize education over acting.

The Kapamilya Fil-Am actor added that it’s a blessing for anyone to have been given the “gift” to fulfill multiple dreams.

“That’s why being an artist is also part of my goals in life,” said Keann, who was a BS Biology student before he decided to enter showbiz.

He, too, believes that having education is essential in whatever profession one decides to concentrate on. “I think it’s a domino effect. How can you have a career if you don’t have education? The career will follow. You can do nothing without education kaya importante rin mag-aral.”

Keann discovered his passion for acting by taking part in several theater plays. “I did a few shows and that’s when I realized I wanted to be an actor and take it a lot more seriously. Kaya nag-papasalamat ako na naging parte ako ng teatro,” said he, whose most recent theater acting project is Hanggang Dito Na Lang at Maraming Salamat.

Prior to becoming a Squad Plus member, Keann is already a familiar face in the modeling world. “I started off in modeling and then I veered into commercial modeling. At that time, I was still exploring the things that I wanted to do. Sa totoo lang, I didn’t want to be part of showbiz before. But as you can see, I feel more hyped than ever. It’s because the more I got into the industry, the more adventurous I became.

“From commercial modeling, I ventured out into network and film then dire-diretso na ‘yung mga projects up until The Boy Foretold By The Stars last December (as one of the entries in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival).”

His role as Luke in the said film paved the way for him to become noticed by showbiz fans. According to reports, The Boy Foretold By The Stars is going to be made into a series with Keann still as one of the lead stars but a new character will be introduced.

“There were two things I learned from the movie — about love for life and that love knows no gender so na-observe ko yung ganung mentality. Then as part of the Squad Plus, I’ve learned to be open to all possibilities. But I wanna say thanks to The Boy Foretold By The Stars for without it, I wouldn’t have this door of opportunity.”

Asked about his dream project, Keann said, “The first thing that pops to mind is to be a contravida kasi ang daming nagsasabi, based on my appearance, na hindi ako bagay maging contravida. So, as an actor, it’s my goal to portray any role that is given to me and if there will be a chance na bagay maging contravida, I will take it.”
