The One Direction update

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star
The One Direction update

At last, there is something new and exciting in the US hit charts, my favorite One Direction boy is back and he is in the Top 20 list. Harry Styles has a new single titled Lights Up and it is truly a piece of hot and trendy Britpop. I was sad that Styles will not be Prince Eric in the live action Little Mermaid but a new album more than makes up for the disappointment.

Remember Harry Styles, his acclaimed solo debut? That one included songs like Sweet Creature and Sign Of The Times which Rolling Stone named the Best Song of 2018. Well, Lights Up is the first single out of the upcoming Styles album and judging from the great way it sounds it seems like it will be filled with lots of sound goodies.

Liam Payne was known as the songwriter of 1D because he co-wrote several of the group’s songs. He has also produced for other artists. So, I find it strange that he still has to come up with his own solo album. He has released several noteworthy collabs though that can easily fill up an EP. Strip That Down ft. Quavo, Fifty Shades Freed with Rita Ora, Familia with J Balvin, First Time with French Montana and his latest, Stack It Up, with A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

Another 1D who still has to release his solo album is Louis Tomlinson. He has been doing quite well with singles, too, like Two Of Us, the 40 million streamer Best Song choice at the Teen Choice Awards, the clubby Just Hold On with Steve Aoki and the soulful Back To You with Bebe Rexha and the Digital Farm Animals. His latest is Kill My Mind, which has been announced as the first out of his first album after 1D. Watch out for it.

Niall Horan has a new single, a piano-driven upbeat pop ballad titled Nice To Meet Ya. It is the first tune out of his much-anticipated second album. Horan’s first titled Flicker was a No. 1 seller in the U.S. of A. and several other countries. It yielded two big hit singles, This Town and Slow Hands. If I remember right, fans were so excited about Flicker that Horan’s website crashed when it was released.

And then there is Zayn Malik who fans condemned for leaving 1D in the middle of a tour. He recently had some success singing the end credits version of A Whole New World in the Disney live-action version of Aladdin with Zhavic Ward. As for his second album, Icarus Falls, not one of the songs charted. It was a fallen album that got me thinking about Icarus in Greek mythology. He fell from the sky because he burned his wings by flying too close to the sun. Ouch!
