Let’s welcome back The Juans

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star
Lets welcome back The Juans
The band is composed of Carl Guevara, Japs Mendoza, Chael Adriano, Joshua Coronel and RJ Cruz.

Just when I was starting to feel like climbing up the housetops to scream, “Give us something new!”, I get something from The Juans. You know how it has been for the local music scene these past months. All that we had been getting were soft romantic musings with no fireworks. The hits songs have either been by December Avenue or Moira de la Torre or This Band with bits of Ben&Ben and I Belong to the Zoo. And the sounds that these acts create strongly resemble each other. Can’t they rock just a wee bit stronger?

But what is this? It has turned out that that something new from The Juans is no fun rocker but a double heartbreaker. While Moira and Jason Marvin are promising undying love and This Band and December Avenue are holding up hope amidst romantic struggles, The Juans went for the jugular in Hindi Tayo Pwede and killed it. The love remains painfully present but there will never be a future, a fulfillment or anything resembling happiness for those lovers.

Now sentimental, broken-hearted Pinoys have gravitated towards the song like ants to honey. They are streaming the song or watching the videos thousands of times a day. If you will check responses to Hindi Tayo Pwede, it will make you feel like everybody out here has at one time or another found a love that can never be. Ouch! Ouch! I got the fireworks but it is not the fun, joyful kind. So I guess I will have to leave The Juans wallowing in broken-hearted mode for a while. There is really no fighting the Pinoys when the subject is affairs of the heart.

Hindi Tayo Puede is part of the EP Umaga. The song resurfaced after it was performed by Janine Teñoso for the soundtrack of the movie Indak. It was also around the same time that listeners began to listen again to the original version by The Juans. And they found out that they had a lot in common with the song, and they started crying and sharing their feelings with others and more. Check out all those social media responses to the song and you, too, will think, we are a nation of broken hearts.

But it is really nice to find The Juans back with a big hit. One of the most talented bands around, The Juans had hits like Atin Ang Mundo, Makasama, Prom, Yan Tayo, Eh, Istorya, Balisong and Binibini Sa MRT. Problems arose when three members decided to leave the music business and find other careers. It is a good thing that songwriter, vocalist and keyboard player Carl Guevara and guitarist and vocalist Japs Mendoza decided to remain with the group. Now with new members Chael Adriano, Joshua Coronel and RJ Cruz, The Juans is back on track and creating hits.

And now from the Philippine Music Charts, here are the week’s Top 40 hits: Ikaw At Ako by Moira and Jason; Señorita by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes; Zebbiana by Skusta Clee; Pagtingin by Ben&Ben; Kung Di Rin Tayo Sa Huli by December Avenue ft.
