MANILA, Philippines —The newly crowned Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Teresita Ssen "Winwyn" Marquez on Sunday vowed to keep the Hispanic culture alive after her win.
In a Facebook live after the coronation night in Bolivia, grateful Marquez said she plans to learn Spanish as one of the starting steps to revive the Hispanic culture.
“I’m very happy and I promise I will make the Hispanic culture alive. I will learn Spanish and it's time to bring back where I come from. This is my roots,” Marquez said.
“I love you Filipinas, te amo Bolivia,” she said.
Marquez is the first Filipino to win the title Reina Hispanoamericana. The pageant celebrates the Hispanic language, culture and heritage.
Her win marks the second crown for the Philippines in a day as another Filipina beauty, Karen Ibasco, was hailed as this year's Miss Earth Saturday evening.
Miss Philippines Nelda Ibe finished as first runner-up at the Miss Globe 2017 last Friday.
