Philippine night at 1956 Asian filmfest

It was truly a Philippine night at the 1956 Asian Film Festival in June 1956 held in Hong Kong.

Two of the country’s entries, both produced by LVN Pictures, won major awards. Anak Dalita won the Golden Harvest Award (Grand Prix) for Best Picture. Having won the Grand Prix, Anak Dalita was no longer qualified to vie for other awards. Higit sa Lahat won Best Actor for Rogelio de la Rosa and Best Director for Gregorio Fernandez.

The country again took center stage at the 1956 Asian filmfest when Filipina actresses paraded in their elegant and eye-catching ternos, among them Gloria Romero, Rosa Rosal and Carol Varga. — RKC
