Cher wins an Emmy and Golden Mike Awards
MANILA, Philippines - Cher Calvin won an Emmy for Stan Chambers: Legendary Newsman (KTLA5), L.A. Local Color category at the 68th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards held at the Television Academy’s new Saban Media Center last July 23.
Cher (seated rightmost with KTLA5 executive producer Kimberly Conell and news reporter Lu Parker) was also nominated for America’s Veterans: A Special Tribute, Culture/History category and Avery’s Journey: A Teen Transition, Light News Story-Multi-Part Report category. She had collected five Emmy statuettes to date.
Frances Louise ‘Lu’ Parker won two awards. She’s the former Miss USA who competed in the 1994 Miss Universe held in Manila where she finished as one of the Top Six finalists (along with our very own Charlene Gonzales).
After four days (July 27), Cher received the Golden Mike Award for Best News Broadcast — 60 Minutes (Airing at the 65th Golden Mike Awards). It’s Cher’s third award given by the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California, the most prestigious and most coveted journalism prize.
