Shows to raise funds for hip-hop group’s tilt in US

MANILA, Philippines - Legit Status (photo), a hip-hop dance troupe made up of the country’s best young dancers, which will represent the Philippines in the Varsity Division of the 2014 World Hip-Hop Dance Championship, is raising funds for its upcoming performance in Las Vegas on Aug. 5 to 10.

In line with this, the eight-member group is holding a fund-raising concert on July 20 and 27 at Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan, Quezon City.

It will showcase a series of routines that features different hip-hop genres. The show will also introduce its new members along with the Legit Status Core Group as well the competing team for the Varsity Division in the 2014 World Hip-Hop Dance Championship.

Proceeds will be used for the group’s hotel accommodations, costumes, food and others in Las Vegas.

Representing the country abroad is not new to Legit Status, which is composed of Corinne Catibayan, Billie Lorenzo, Gab Garcia, Justin Lu, Rock Monreal, Tol Zarcal, Macky Manlutac and Samantha Javier. The group represented the country in the Varsity and Megacrew Divisions of the Hip-Hop International Dance Competition in Las Vegas 2012. In 2013, the group again represented the country in the Varsity division of the same international competition in Las Vegas.

The annual World Hip-Hop Dance Championship, the most respected international street dance competition in the world, is organized and operated by Hip-Hop International, the foremost authority on street dance.

Legit Status is competing against top dance crews from over 30 nations via a two-minute routine choreographed by original Street Dance Coach Vimi Rivera.
