MANILA, Philippines – Former child star Tom Taus is currently in the country to pursue a career in music.
The 28-year-old star of the 90s movies such as “Anak ng Bulkan” and “Batang Z” signed a management contract with Viva Management on Monday, July 14.
Tom, who is now a DJ and is based in Los Angeles, said he wants to “focus on the music side” in his second wind as an artist in the Philippines.
“Dati pa ako nag-shift talaga sa field na ginagawa ko. I've been a DJ for eight, nine years. That's been my main focus, my passion, that's what I love doing,” he told members of the press.
The 90s child star has performed in a number of clubs in the United States and in the Philippines.
However, Tom is open to return to acting. “I would consider acting, it depends on the good role. I don’t wanna do just any project. I haven’t acted in a long time so, if I’m gonna do something, I want it to be really good,” he said.
“Nakaka-miss din siya. Pero ngayon ang love ko ay music. Pero ‘yong acting, parang I did that for a long time,” Tom added.
He does not regret leaving the country at 13 years old despite having a successful career as a child actor despite seeing some of his contemporaries still active in the business.
“Gaya nga ng sinabi ko, sobrang masaya ako sa ginagawa ko ngayon sa music, performing live with a lot of people. It’s a lot of different when you’re in front of the camera and when you are on stage, when you’re connecting with people. It’s a different feeling. Pero it will be cool to be back to acting again,” Tom explained.
The younger brother of 90s actress Antoinette Taus said people still recognize him in clubs and public events as Cedie, the character he played in the popular 90s movie “Cedie: Ang Munting Prinsipe.”
“Kahit saan naman ako pumunta yun ang unang nano-notice ng tao. But lately, hati na It's either Cedie or DJ Tom Taus, which is a good thing because I'm trying to shift,” he said.
Tom added, “I want people to know what I do now. I'm not Cedie anymore, you know?”
Given the opportunity, he would want collaborate with Billy Crawford and Kjwan's Marc Abaya.
Meanwhile, Tom denied past reports that he dated actress Andi Eigenmann.
Andi, he explained, is a childhood friend through her mom Jaclyn Jose, his co-star in a number of movies.Tom added he is currently single.
“I feel like I’m just starting to enjoy the Philippines again. You know, matagal kasi akong nawala so parang it’s nice to be able to do what you want and go to the places you haven’t been to before. I’m really enjoying this trip now and I’m trying to establish myself again in terms of working,” he said.
