Spider-Man 2 the biggest-grossing Spider-Man film ever

MANILA, Philippines - After 20 days in theaters, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has successfully unseated 2007’s Spider-Man 3 as the biggest-grossing Spider-Man film in local history, according to Columbia Pictures Philippines.

As of Monday, May 20, the film has posted a nationwide gross of P438.91M, effectively outpacing Spider-Man 3’s final gross of P434.9M. The former is expected to widen the gap even further as it continues to play in selected screens.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 now also holds the record of the highest-grossing title ever released by Columbia Pictures in the Philippines, as well as the country’s third-biggest movie all-industry (local or foreign) and all-time, behind only two other Marvel titles, The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

SM Mall of Asia contributed the largest chunk of box-office receipts with P23.21M in 20 days, followed by SM North EDSA (P20.89M), SM Megamall (P19.53M), Trinoma (P16.77M) and SM Cebu (P11.85M).

The newly-opened Bonifacio High Street cinemas which showed the film in the revolutionary 4D format posted an outstanding gross of P10.60M.

Also delivering impressive totals were Glorietta 4 (P10.22M), Alabang Town Center (P8.36M), SM Southmall (P7.93M), Greenbelt 3 (P7.76M), SM Aura (P7.32M), SM Clark (P6.99M), Eastwood (P6.98M), SM Fairview (P6.90M) and Greenhills (P6.74M).

Market! Market! led the Top 16 to 30 rankings with P6.42M, followed by Gateway (P6.23M), Ayala Cebu (P6.07M), Newport City (P5.67M), SM Dasmariñas (P5.59M), Robinsons Magnolia (P5.51M), Power Plant (P5.50M), Robinsons Ermita (P5.38M), Festival Mall (P5.36M), SM San Lazaro (P5.29M), SM Marikina (P5.16M), SM Baguio (P4.98M), SM Bacoor (P4.94M), Sta. Lucia East (P4.88M) and Shang Cineplex (P4.83M).
