Kathryn can’t wait to turn 18

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda - The Philippine Star

The spotlight is on Kathryn Bernardo as she turns 18 years old days from now. Wasn’t it just a few years ago when Kathryn first appeared as a child star on the top-rating series It Might Be You as the young Bea Alonzo? Now, she has blossomed into a fine young lady with a promising career ahead of her.

At such a young age, Kathryn has emerged as one of the hottest teen stars of her generation. She is the other half of the famous Kathniel loveteam that has legion of fans that faithfully follow their teleseryes and movies, such as Got to Believe, Princess and I, Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay, Must Be… Love, Sisterakas and 24/7 in Love.

Kathryn talked about her much-awaited debut during her guesting in Buzz ng Bayan with Daniel Padilla. The young star admitted that she can’t wait for her upcoming birthday bash. “Na-e-excite na ako. Nag-start na ako ngayon na kabahan,’” she disclosed.

She is hands-on with regard to the ongoing preparations for her vintage-inspired birthday party that has a black-white-pink motif. “Hands-on because I don’t want them to handle everything. If I have time, as in from the invitation to the gown, gusto ko medyo alam ko ang nangyayari.”

She shared some of the details of what the public can expect from her birthday celebration. “I don’t want a lengthy program so I have 18 roses of course, and then 18 candles. Parang iyong 18 candles mixed na iyong treasures doon.”

During the interview, Carmina Villarroel and I asked Daniel if he will be Kathryn’s escort. He quipped, “Siyempre naman po!” Was he asked? “I’m claiming it. I’m assuming it’s going to be me,” Daniel said in jest.

Kathryn added, “I don’t think it needs to be asked. I think it’s automatic; it’s somewhat a given that (my escort) is going to be DJ.”

I asked Mina, who played the mother of Daniel in Got to Believe, about the two teen stars and what she saw on the set. Mina had a difficult time answering, laughing while looking at them fondly. In the end, she replied, “Basta they’re very comfortable with each other. They’re very sweet.”

Daniel and Kathryn were put on the hotseat when I asked them if they are officially together and they could answer it by a simple yes or no. They remained elusive. There are speculations that Kathryn and Daniel are already a couple but until now they are tight-lipped about the real score between them. The only thing that the public knows is that they are still in the MU stage.

Meanwhile, Kathniel talked about their learnings while doing Got to Believe. Kathryn shared that she learned a lot from their director. “From direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina), I’ve learned so much from her. At the start of Got to Believe, I had difficulty adjusting to my character as Chichay because it’s not easy doing rom-com. It’s difficult to do. May timing ka tapos effortless ang pagpapatawa. Natural talaga lahat. So with direk Cathy, whether in acting, or in life, you learn a lot from her.”

Daniel said that he was happy working with the stars and staff of the series. As an actor, he knows the importance of his job and he needs to be serious with his craft.

Their loyal fans have something to look forward to after the “best ending ever” of Got to Believe. Kathniel will topbill She’s Dating the Gangster, the film adaptation of the best-selling pop-fiction book written by Bianca Bernardino.
