Korina temporarily leaves radio show

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Television and radio news anchor Korina Sanchez has filed a leave of absence from her top-rating show "Rated Korina" on radio DZMM.

She announced on Sunday that she will focus on finishing requirements for her master's degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.

"Kapag ayos na lahat ay makakabalik naman ako. Gusto ko na talaga itong iraos," Sanchez said.

"Muntik na akong ibagsak ng dalawa kong propesor dahil sa absence at late submissions kaya talagang hindi ko mapagsabay," she added.

Last November, Sanchez also took a leave from her television shows purportedly to go on vacation.

The break from broadcasting came after CNN personality Anderson Cooper took a swipe at Sanchez for defending her husband, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, from criticisms over his work in relief operations after Supertyphoon Yolanda.

Sanchez said that she has been consulting the planned leave from the radio show for an indefinite period from the network's management since June 2013.

Entertainment news personalities Amy Perez and Marc Logan, meanwhile, will serve as Sanchez's substitutes in the program.

Sanchez said that she has endorsed her "Isang Milyong Tsinelas Campaign" to Logan and Perez as a continuing advocacy of the show. Less fortunate children whose parents cannot afford to provide them footwear receive slippers from the Sanchez-led drive.
