Body Talk with Jeric and Jeron

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

At home or on the hard court, there’s no sibling rivalry between Teng brothers Jeric, 22 (March 18, 1991, Aries), and Jeron, 19 (March 21, 1994, also an Arian), even if they’re playing for different schools in the UAAP…Jeric as shooting guard of UST’s Growling Tigers and Jeron as small forward for La Salle’s Green Archers.

“But yes,” confirms Jeric Allen Uy Teng, who’s taking up Commerce and Marketing, “there’s a healthy competition between us. The competition motivates us to do better.”

“Actually,” clarifies Jeron Alvin Uy Teng, who’s taking up LIA-COM (majoring in Marketing and Behavioral Science), “there’s no rivalry between us since we’re brothers. We support each other until the end.”

Both of them finished elementary/high school at Xavier and trained early in the game by their father, Alvin Teng who was known as Robocop when he was playing in the PBA, married to Susan Teng with whom he has two more daughters, Alyssa, 25, and Almira, 20.

“I was six years old when our dad introduced me to basketball,” recalls Jeric. “He taught us to be a hard worker and be disciplined.”

“I think I was in Grade Five when our dad started teaching me basketball,” says Jeron. “Jeric is right…Our dad taught us to be hard-working.”

The brothers (and their sisters) were raised to be God-fearing.

“We were brought up having in our mind that we should be family-oriented,” adds Jeric. “We are very close as a family. We all know what’s happening among us, we are aware of each other’s activities.”

When La Salle loses to UST, and vice-versa, do they console each other? Don’t they exchange or share hardcourt secrets?

Jeric: We just talk about what happened in the game like what our team did right and wrong, and also what we (brothers) did right and wrong as well. But we don’t talk about our own team’s strategies and the like.”

Jeron: We don’t share game plans, of course. We just laugh when we get home after our game.
