Meet the Kung Fu divas

Who would ever imagine that the reigning divas of the two biggest television networks in the country will unite together in one hilarious and action-packed movie?

Ai-Ai de las Alas and Marian Rivera made it all possible, thanks to direk Onat Diaz’s Kung Fu Divas. Produced by Reality Entertainment and The O&Co Picture Factory, Inc., the movie is set to hit theaters in October.

I have been friends with direk Onat for several years now. As the director of The Buzz, I have seen his dedication to his craft and his admirable work ethic. He quickly learned the tricks of talk show directing and is having great fun while forging meaningful friendships with the hosts and staff. Before The Buzz and up until now, he’s one of the biggest directors in the advertising world. He also directs music videos and the biggest and best station IDs. A fabulous risk taker, direk Onat welcomes every opportunity to improve his skills. One of them is the movie Kung Fu Divas which is his first feature film.

Kung Fu Divas is considered an ambitious project not only because Ai-Ai and Marian team up for the first time in this gargantuan movie but also because it showcases the use of cutting-edge technology to visually capture the lead stars’ escapades that cross the borders between reality and fantasy.

The trailer of the highly-anticipated movie has been released in cinemas and online. It features Ai-Ai and Marian competing in a barangay beauty pageant called Hiyas ng Dalampasigan. The two beauty rivals clash on stage while exchanging lethal comic punches and acerbic comments like, (Marian) “Te, mukhang nagkamali ka yata ng sinalihan. Ang sabi, beauty queen hindi ugly queen.” (Ai-Ai), “Okay, let’s fight for this crown.”

Their fight for the crown and glory becomes intense that they eventually decide to battle it out through a kung fu match. Expect several fighting styles of the Chinese martial arts to be featured in the movie. Who will reign between the two aspiring beauties in the end? We will find out soon.

Ai-Ai and Marian are no strangers to comedy. Total entertainment is synonymous with Ai-Ai. As the undisputed Comedy Queen, Ai-Ai has starred in numerous movies and series like Ang Tanging Ina, Enteng Ng Ina Mo, Sisterakas, My Binondo Girl and Wako Wako.

Meanwhile, Marian has her fair share in the comedy department with her movies My Best Friend’s Girlfriend, You to Me Are Everything, Super Inday and the Golden Bibe and the television show, Show Me Da Manny.

Ai-Ai plus Marian equals double fun and riot. Expect only pure entertainment as they unleash their comic talents and hilarious antics on the big screen soon in Kung Fu Divas.

Is Patrick ready to settle down?

Patrick Garcia admitted in The Buzz that he is not yet in good terms with Jennylyn Mercado with whom he has a son, Alex Jazz. This is the reason why he does not regularly see his son. The last time he saw Alex Jazz was last Christmas. Despite the gap, he hopes that they will soon settle their differences for the sake of their son. “Hopeful (ako). Ayaw ko namang mang-away. I would love to be with my son and I want him to grow up knowing me. I want to be there every step of the way,” he said. However, Patrick did not answer whether his conflict with Jennylyn is due to his alleged failure in giving financial support to Alex Jazz.

Patrick is expecting his second child soon. In his past interview, Patrick said he will still support his son although he will have another baby with his non-showbiz girlfriend. Is he now ready to get married? “One day, I’ll settle down. As of now, we’re taking it slow and concentrating on the baby.”

Despite some glitches in his personal life, Patrick is still happy and thankful for the rave reviews he received for his performance on ABS-CBN’s primetime teleserye Apoy sa Dagat where he played Alberto del Sol, a seaman who fell in love with a “mariposang dagat” portrayed by Nikki Gil. The two were seen in several love scenes. In the series, he was required to bare some skin. “I am always comfortable with my body,” he answered. His character met a tragic end leaving his wife and twins behind.

If given the chance, Patrick would like to do another teleserye. Here’s wishing to see more of Patrick in ABS-CBN’s upcoming shows because he is one of the best actors of his generation.
