ARMM 23rd year fest ends Dec. 19
MANILA, Philippines - The month-long celebration of the 23rd founding anniversary of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is far from being over as it continues to be packed with fun-filled events and cultural activities lined up before it marks the conclusion of the festivities this month.
With the theme Mga Makabagong Hamon sa Mapayapang BangsaMoro, the 23rd ARMM founding anniversary started with a big bang last Nov. 19 and is set to conclude on Dec. 19.
The month-long celebration aims to showcase ARMM tradition and history in a unique perspective, particularly through various competitions, activities and cultural presentations.
“It is an exciting hidden treasure of the country’s festival experience,” said ARMM OIC Regional Governor Mujib Hataman.
“It serves as a good promotion for the region, bringing it out from obscurity and turning it into a treasure for everyone to enjoy,” Hataman noted.
In addition to the events and festivities, ARMM delicacies and products are also up for grabs during the anniversary celebration, adding more spice to an already special festival experience.
“There were products and services put on sale by locals and entrepreneurs in booths set up by the line agencies during the one-month celebration,” said ARMM First Lady Sitti Djaliah Hataman.
Series of cultural shows highlighting the Maranaos, Yakans, Tausogs and Maguindanaos will continue to be presented this month.
As for the sports and food enthusiasts, a Moro Olympics and culinary competitions are also set to be held, respectively.
Other highly-anticipated activities set are the Sharief Kabunggsuan Musicale, Kultura at Kasuotan fashion show, PAGANA Maguindanao Cultural Presentation (Kulintang Exhibition and Dance) and cultural peace concerts. A grand fireworks display will close the event.
Although this year’s celebration may slowly be coming to a close, there is still enough time for tourists and Moro people to enjoy and experience the ARMM festival.
Next year’s celebration is also something to look forward to for the entire country, given the festival’s success this year.
