Star Magic artists dominate award-giving bodies

MANILA, Philippines - The eight USTv Students ‘ Choice awards held last Feb. 16 once again recognized Star Magic artists for their performances. Coco Martin received his second USTv award for the Students’ Choice of Actor in Local Soap Opera for Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. Xyriel Manabat, on the other hand, won the USTv award for the Students’ Choice of Actress and Jodi Santamaria was awarded Students’ Choice of Supporting Actress for 100 Days. Zaijian Jaranilla with Jaime Fabregas received a USTv special citation for ABS-CBN’s special documentary titled Banal.

Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) announced the nominees for the 28th Star Awards for Movies, which will happen tonight at the Meralco Theater. Maja Salvador is one of the nominees for Movie Actress of the Year for Thelma. Angelica Panganiban and Eliza Pineda are nominated for Best Supporting Actress of the Year for Segunda Mano and Thelma, respectively. Jake Cuenca is nominated as the Movie Supporting Actor of the Year for In the Name of Love. Movie Child Performer of the Year nominees are Xyriel and Zaijian for their movie Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak! and e-boy lead child actor Bugoy Cariño for Shake, Rattle & Roll XVIII. New Movie Actor of the Year nominees are Albie Casiño for Aswang and Matteo Guidicelli for Catch Me…I’m In Love.

Due to be awarded at the 10th Gawad Tanglaw Awards are Coco as Pinakapuri-Puring Artista ng Dekada for Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin and Xyriel as Best Performance by an Actress as Anna Manalastas in 100 Days to Heaven. Enchong Dee is also recognized by Gawad Tanglaw for Best Single Performance by an Actor in Maalaala Mo Kaya. Maricar Reyes, on the other hand, is one of the fi nalists for Best Actress for her performance in the Cinema One original Anatomiya ng Korupsyon. Awarding ceremony is set tomorrow, March 15 at the University of Perpetual Help in Las Piñas.

Four Star Magic artists are nominated in ENPRESS’ (Entertainment Press Society, Inc.) ninth Golden Screen Awards. Maja and Ina Feleo are co-nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Drama) for Thelma and Ikaw Ang Pag-Ibig, respectively. JM de Guzman is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Musical/Comedy), while Dimples Romana is on the fi nal list of nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in Supporting Role.

The Golden Screen Awards will be held on March 24 at the Teatrino Greenhills.
