Letty Liboon: The golden voice

- Danny Dolor -

Letty Liboon was billed ‘the girl with the golden voice’ in LVN’s musical drama Nasaan Ka Irog, circa 1957. Letty, a soprano, studied at the UST Conservatory of Music.

Nasaan Ka Irog was inspired by Nicanor Abelardo’s immortal kundiman of the same title, the story of two brothers falling in love and fighting over one woman, a singer, Letty. Mario Montenegro played the pianist and Val Castelo the guitarist.

Letty made only a few movies with LVN. She married poet Rolando Carbonell and migrated to the US.

This columnist remembers that in 1983, when the Tribung Pinoy mounted a concert in Los Angeles, California, Letty sang the National Anthem.     — RKC
