Ely gets the spotlight at Red Horse Beer Muziklaban

MANILA, Philippines - Ely Buendia recently made a spectacular stage performance during the Red Horse Beer Pambansang Muziklaban Rock Challenge Grand Finals held at the Aseana Park Open Grounds, Parañaque City.

The highly successful rock fest, which brought together rock music aficionados and hardcore rock fans, was one of the biggest stages that Ely has conquered in his over two decades in the OPM scene.

Ely became an icon in the music industry as lead vocalist of the popular Pinoy rock band Eraserheads. The band shook the ’90s with their unique sound and live performances.

Leaving the band in 2002, Ely pursued other musical genres and formed the band The Mongols and later on, Pupil in 2005.

At present, Pupil is promoting its third album Limiters of the Infinity Pool and working on its new music video.

Meanwhile, Ely said that he’s very honored to be part of the Red Horse Beer family, which has made a big contribution to the rock scene, helping bands and generally OPM. “I am thankful to San Miguel (Corporation) for keeping the faith in Pinoy talent,” he said.

He also shared that during his time it was hard to enter the rock scene. But now, there are more venues to play and ways to be seen and heard with the help of technology and other media. “It surprises me how much talent is out there. So, it is such a great feeling to know that there are people who support and give opportunity to amateur bands,” he added.

Ely shared some words of wisdom for up-and-coming bands. Aside from the quality of music and techniques, he said that the band should have a sense of camaraderie. “You should have stage presence or similar thoughts when playing because it adds X factor when the audience see and hear your music. And never be complacent, always innovate your music.”
