Sweet friendships gone sour
MANILA, Philippines - Have you watched a film where it all started with what seems to be a promising friendship, then, along came those disturbing behavior, wicked treatment and life-threatening remarks? What happens in the end? One or the other dies, disappears or looks for a new friend — “start anew,” as they say. Disturbing as it may seem, viewers still have a thing for this kind of films. Here are some of the flicks about sweet friendships gone sour:
The Roommate. Roommates, they are potential best friends or maybe not all. Sara and Rebecca are roommates. They bond in no time and become good friends. Not for long, Rebecca starts to take their friendship too seriously. Anyone who dares to come between them is a sure target.
Cable Guy. A TV cable guy is desperately looking for a friend. His target: The newly moved-in dude. He installs his cable TV and that starts it all, but this is not an ordinary friendship. It gets complicated and scarier as it deepens — of course, it’s hilarious for the viewers.
Single White Female. Allie is in search for a new housemate. Out of all the applicants, she chooses Hedy. They just connect instantly and so they become friends as well. As their friendship blooms, Hedy begins to act weird which alarms Allie so much and causes her to wonder if it’s a good decision to let her into her house and into her life.
Poison Ivy. Timid and shy Sylvie believes she has found a best friend in Ivy. At least with Ivy, she feels accepted and she’s having fun. Everything changes when she brings Ivy to her home. What Sylvie doesn’t know is that Ivy is actually a poisonous friend (just like how the movie title describes her).
The Caller. It’s always nice to receive a phone call from a friend, right? Mary Kee has just moved in to her new apartment. She sees an old phone and thinks it’s nice. Not for long, she receives a phone call from someone who needs a friend. After resisting for some time, she gives in and chats with the caller, which may not be a good idea.
Child’s Play. Andy gets his “Chucky” doll as a birthday present from his mom who bought it from a street peddler. Andy and his doll become best friends. However, Andy’s mom starts to worry when Andy claims that the doll is speaking to him and telling him things.
Mean Girls. Cady is the new girl in school. She tries to look for some friends but thinks it’s impossible after being home-schooled all her life. She meets and befriends outcasts Janice and Damien, who ask her to join “the plastics”— the mean girls, as part of a plan for revenge. However, all plans start to fall apart when Cady slowly turns into a mean girl herself. Will they be friends again?
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Claire, a busy mom of two, hires Peyton as a nanny. She feels an instant connection so she believes that Peyton is the right nanny. Unknown to Claire and her husband, Peyton is someone from the past who wants a payback.
The Resident. Juliet has just moved into her new apartment. Everything seems fine, plus, her landlord is attractive and single. She befriends him and he shows romantic interest in her. However, a problem occurs: Someone is stalking her. Not just outside but also inside her house. Now, who could that be?
Chatroom. Chatting, chatting and more chatting on the Net is what most people do now for their social lives. The question: Is it safe? The movie is about a group of teenagers who joins a chatroom and finds themselves hooked to it because the moderator is such a charmer. Little do they know that they have gotten themselves into something they may not be able to get out of.
