What a twist!

Joy Jonette Chuyaco - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Every movie has got to end. Even movie sequels eventually end. Viewers always anticipate for this because that is when everything gets explained — well, almost. Endings can be good, tragic, unexplained and bizarre. Also, there is one kind of ending that seems to be unexpected yet very much appreciated by viewers for its creative twist. Here are some must-watched films which ended quite not the way viewers expected:

The Sixth Sense. Cole is seeing things ordinary people don’t see. He is terrified and clueless on how to deal with it. He befriends Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist, who is eager to help him. Unknown to Dr. Crowe, Cole is giving him hints about a truth that he has yet to discover. The movie became much talked-about for its unique ending.

The Village. Set in the 19th century, the habitants of a village are filled with fear because of some mysterious creatures living in the forest. However, it seems like the elders know a deep secret that they don’t dare share with the young ones. A blind girl goes to the forest and tries to find out the truth — something even the viewers never expected.

Wild Things. A rich high school student accuses her guidance councilor of rape. As the case heightens, more and more characters get involved which makes it complicated; but one thing is for sure, a game is being played and it is up to the viewers to find out what.

Saw. From the first until the final chapter, Saw movies never fail to surprise its viewers with its ending, especially in every last part where it explains who did what. Many might consider Saw as just one of those gory films but there’s more to Saw than just the gore. It has a unique story and the right twist.

Psycho. Norman Bates has a problem. His over possessive mother wouldn’t allow any other people into their lives. When Norman fell in love with a guest who stays in his motel, his mother starts to act crazy and kills the lady. But, how could this happen, when Norman’s mom has been dead for many years?

The Others. A mother tries to protect her children from some entities inside their house. Three mysterious servants come to help around the house but their real purpose is more than that. They are about to reveal to the mother a fact that she has never accepted.

Primal Fear. An innocent looking altar boy is charged of murdering the Archbishop. Martin Vail, the lawyer, strongly believes that the accused has nothing to do with the case. What he doesn’t realize is that his client is not that innocent at all.

The Usual Suspects. A suspect is being interrogated and begins to tell his story on how he and other criminals landed in a crime scene. His story gets complicated and confusing. Would investigators believe his story? The ending will surely explain

The Game. A wealthy investment banker finds himself caught in a series of troublesome situations. Clueless and terrified, he tries to get out of it but his efforts are useless. Unknown to him, he is actually just playing a game — or is he the one being played?

The Prestige. Two rival magicians compete with each other to the point of affecting the people around them. As expected, the movie is full of spellbinding magic tricks; the shocking revelation at the end of the movie is also something to look forward to.
