The part of them that the stars would donate, Part 2
This is the second part (by insistent public clamor) of the Funfare forum inspired by the death of Elizabeth Taylor at age 79 on March 23. The question is: Miko Sotto donated his eyes and people said that Elizabeth Taylor should have donated her violet eyes, too. If you were to donate a part of your body, what would it be and why?
As in the first survey, some of the stars asked simply ignored the question and Funfare is thanking those who did.
But before we go over their answers, maybe I should mention that, according to readers, certain parts may not be donated, including: Lifted nose, lifted face, lifted breasts, “repaired” eyes, “tampered-with” lips (made to look like those of the naturally-beautiful Angelina Jolie), “landscaped” whatever and any surgically-improved part.
• Gloria Diaz: I would donate my kidney. I have two and I can give one to somebody in need because I need only one.
• Donita Rose: Every single part of my body that could be used, then I will have the rest cremated. I know that others would benefit and have healthier lives while I would have a new body in heaven. It is like leaving a legacy when I’m gone.
• Enzo Pineda: I will donate my heart.
• Ruffa Gutierrez: I would donate any part of my body to anyone in need.
• Julius Babao: My eyes, so that others may see and enjoy this beautiful world. Donating a part of your body is the most unselfish and noble act that anyone can do to his fellowman.
• Marc Abaya: Any functioning part of my body. I would be dead by then and would MOST PROBABLY not need them anymore. At least, magagamit siya ng nangangailangan.
• Mark Bautista: My eyes, definitely!
• Chris Tiu: My arms and hands, so that the recipient will make many winning three-point shots for our country.
• Ricky Davao: I want to be cremated when I go, so I would donate all my organs that still function well…if there are takers, hahahaha! It’s morbid to talk about these things, but at this day and age it’s better to be practical and help those in need.
• Ogie Alcasid: My eyes.
• Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte: My kidney, because I can survive with only one.
• Iza Calzado: Every part that is healthy enough to be donated.
• Kean Cipriano: My eyes, so the recipient will see my vision in life. Hahahaha!
• Vivian Sarabia: Yes, my eyes!
• Kim Atienza: My brain. It is with my God-given knowledge and trivia that Kuya Kim became Kuya Kim. My brain is quite average but has become sharpened by constant reading and passion for knowledge. It is also a brain that has learned to “turn off” when decisions coming from the heart are necessary. This brain has helped Kuya Kim and I wish it would help my donee.
• Jojo Alejar: Me? I would give my hands because I have two hands, the left and the right, hold them up high so clean and bright. Two little hands are good to see.
• Joey de Leon: I won’t donate any part. I will give every part of my body back to God dahil hiram lang ‘yon, eh. Isosoli ko.
• Martin Nievera (complete answer which was inadvertently cut in Part 1): If I gave my eyes, the world would know what made me laugh and what made me cry. If I gave my lungs, the recipient would score higher in Karaoke. If I gave my mouth, he or she would probably say the wrong things. If I gave my legs, that lucky person would stumble and fall often, but stand and cheer right after. If I gave my arms, the recipient would more often than not carry too heavy a load, but would be quick to embrace life and all that came with it. If I were to give my brain…ah well…He would…She would…I mean they would…They wood, ahhh. Let’s go back to that one later…There would be enough for everyone. So what’s left of the good parts? I guess it would be my heart because I worked very hard to make and break this damn thing, so whoever gets this “baby” better take care of it! I have given this heart away so often that I can finally promise the recipient that this would be the last.
(Note: In the survey’s Part 1, Miko Sotto’s Ali said that she would donate her hair for those who have undergone chemo and have lost their crowning glory. A card-carrying organ-and-eye donor, Ali is requesting Funfare to relay the information from Dr. Minguita Padilla [who is involved in the eye-donation project] that those interested may directly contact the eye bank at 302-6282 or +63917-8935995; or check out its website at www.eyebankphil.com. Girlie Rodis said that those who want to join the Organ Donor Card Group may get information at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=286413899935&ref=mf.)
