Dance, Dance on, Regine!

Robbie Pangilinan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Regine Tolentino’s business is dancing. She is well-known for her sexy and graceful dance moves that leave everyone in awe. Regine has been in the industry for more than 15 years, starting out as a Filipino VJ in MTV Asia way back 1997 with Francis Magalona.

Today, the Philippines’ sexy dance diva showcases her talent every Sunday noon at TV5’s variety show Party on 5 (P.O.5) and has a weekly dance instructional segment on Gandang Ricky Reyes also every Sunday at 10 a.m. on Q-11.

Regine also has two to three weekly fitness segments on GMA’s Unang Hirit where she is also a regular host.

Besides her regular TV shows, Regine also takes care of her businesses — a boutique and a dance studio.

Regine’s Boutique (www.reginesboutique.multiply.com) has made clothes for celebrities, men, women, and children of all ages and sizes, both local and foreign since 1999. The entrepreneur loves the thrill of doing big rush orders, like the costumes for P.O.5 every week.

She also feels honored to dress up Leyte Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez and Ruffa Gutierrez. The other thing that keeps her busy is running her dance studio since 2003 (www.reginesdancestudio.multiply.com). Regine has personally mentored several celebrities and has reached hundreds of fans who follow her instructional dance video series. Regine is passionate about her ventures and happy that the businesses are going strong. In fact, she already has expansion plans for the first quarter of 2011 — something worth waiting for.

On the side, Regine also does hosting and dancing stints in corporate shows and endorses a skin clinic and a vitamin brand.

When she comes home, she again has a full-time job — as wife of Lander Vera-Perez and hands-on mother of Reigne and Reigan. Regine manages to put her whole heart into the roles she plays — dancer, host, entrepreneur, family woman — because her body is in tiptop shape. Thanks to her almost daily dance rehearsals and classes, and her weekly fitness and dance segments on TV, Regine maintains excellent health and sexy figure. Whenever she has free time, she even takes fitness dance classes and hits the gym.

The superwoman is very careful in what she eats and drinks. “I take A- fukoidan food supplement, multi-vitamins and calcium. I drink a lot of juice and water and eat a big breakfast, healthy lunch, and light dinner. I don’t eat much rice, junk food, and stay away from softdrinks,” Regine shares. “I gotta have the chocolates though, but only on occasion,” she confesses.

When Regine gave birth to Reigne, she knew she needed to get back in shape fast. So she went on a strict diet and workout schedule. She ate eggwhites in the morning, chicken or tuna with vegetables and salads for lunch, and did not have dinner at times until she was able to shed the 50 pounds she gained during her pregnancy. “All that goes with dancing and breastfeeding for quick results,” she says. “It’s a sacrifice, but it goes away quite fast with some family support and self-discipline,” Regine adds.

Lately, Regine has been working out extra hard training with her Latin ballroom coach for a competition later this year. She is also preparing hard for her first dance concert to be held this year.

Already in her late 30s, Regine still has not undergone any cosmetic procedure, but says she might consider it in the future if really necessary. The dance diva usually wakes up at 5:30 in the morning unless she has Unang Hirit segments in which case she gets up as early as 3 a.m. She takes a 15-minute shower and puts on moisturizer and make-up with sunblock. At night, she just removes her make-up with foam wash, then puts papaya lotion on her face and body.

Regine has faced many challenges in her personal and professional life, but she says all these have helped her become smarter and stronger. Right now, she is extremely happy with how things have turned out. The California-born Regine hopes that her business will go international soon.

Regine’s business, career and passion is dancing. And with her persistence, discipline, and positive attitude, she is dancing her way to further success.
