Tuloy na tuloy ang kasal!

Sen./Vice Presidentiable Mar Roxas and his fiancée Korina Sanchez

Curtain-raisers:

• A young actress is spreading the feeler that she might take a vacation abroad and stay with her father because she’s bumping heads (again!?!) with her over-protective (stage) mother. A good enough alibi? Not quite...not when there’s a rumor that she’s entering an “interesting” period that will force her to disappear from the showbiz scene for a while. Her non-showbiz boyfriend (brother of an actress married to an actor-politician) is said to be “celebrating.”

• They’re not talking just yet but it’s confirmed to Funfare by those close to them that, yes, Paolo Contis and EB Babe Lian Paz will soon be parents. “It’s true,” said GR, “Lian is four months pregnant.” So what Lian said that something was wrong with her uterus (or ovary?) was not true after all. The sweethearts are not talking about getting married...yet.

• Not a deluge could make Sen./Vice Presidentiable Mar Roxas and his fiancée Korina Sanchez change their plan to get married not on Oct. 23 as originally reported but on Oct. 27. When Mar announced his decision to drop his plan to run for president in 2010 two months ago, people thought that he and Korina would postpone their wedding indefinitely or scrap it altogether, never mind if the well-publicized pamanhikan was already done with. The wedding is not co-terminus with Mar’s presidential ambition. But, according to Funfare’s Cubao-friendly DPA, “Because of the destruction wrought by Typhoon Ondoy, leaving thousands homeless and hundreds dead, they might ‘tone down’ the event.” The wedding will be held at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City but, added the DPA, “The reception might have to be ‘streamlined’.” The good thing is that, tuloy ang ligaya; tuloy na tuloy ang kasal!

Here’s a piece of good news from Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre:

“I am sharing with you a heartwarming song titled United As One created by singer MiG Ayesa with the many victims of Typhoon Ondoy in mind. With the country still reeling from the destruction wrought by Ondoy, people just have to listen to the beautiful lyrics and melody of this uplifting soft rock and surely they’ll find peace, strength and hope to help the victims pick up the pieces. I hope you can share it with your readers especially the Ondoy survivors who, I’m sure, need some serious moral boost.”

Related to the Legardas (among them Katrina Legarda, my favorite celebrity lawyer). MiG is the Fil-Aussie Top 3 finalist in the RockStar:INXS. He came for a visit three years ago.

Added Edmund (who came for a vacation last month), “I have relatives and friends in Biñan, Laguna; Balagtas, Bulacan; and Montalban, Rizal who lost all their belongings (from sofa and clothes to pictures and mementos). Ang ganda talaga ng song and really touching, tumatagos sa kaibuturan ng puso, kaya sayang kung hindi maririnig ng madla.”

MiG, a London and Sydney theater actor-singer-turned pop/rock performer, is currently in New York where he took part in a major benefit concert called BANDing2gether for the Ondoy Relief Fund held last Sunday, Oct. 11, at St. John School Auditorium in Jersey City, New Jersey, with New York’s eight leading Fil-Am bands and other local artists. The concert was presented by MPE Productions in cooperation with Ayala Foundation USA.

Here’s what MiG has to say about United As One:

“I just wanted to share with you a song I am sending to use to help raise funds for the victims of Ondoy in the Philippines. Please bear in mind this is a demo, recorded at home, using my very limited studio and playing all the instruments. I hope people can pick up this song and use it as an anthem for the relief efforts and also use it to raise much-needed funds. Any help or ideas you may have to get it to the right people would be very much appreciated.

“The world has seemed to forgotten what is still such a painful and drastic situation. I hope this song will inspire people to act and give hope.”

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

(Sibling, friend, countrymen)

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

Kasama mo ako

(I am with you)

Kasama mo ako

I hear you calling out my name

And I just can’t ignore what you’re saying

I see you falling from the pain

And I’m feeling the way that you’re hurting

You’re my brother, sister don’t you cry

I’ll be there by your side to hold you up

Though you never thought this would matter

I’ll never leave you alone (Kasama mo ako)

So hold on tightly, hang on I’ll be

There by your side and we’ll battle the tide together...

Together...

Don’t be scared we’ll

Soon be where we

All want to be as we stand here united as one.

Pag langit ay du-mi-di-lim (When dark cloud leaves you in despair)

And the rain seems to fall down forever

At buhay ay uma-aah-sim (When life is just too much to bear)

And you can’t feel the break in the weather

You don’t have to worry

I’ll help you carry on

Through the eye of the storm we’re holding on

The day’s dawning, feel the sun warming

Healing you, keeping you strong... (Kasama mo ako)

So hold on tightly, hang on I’ll be

There by your side and we’ll battle the tide together...

Together...

Don’t be scared we’ll

Soon be where we

All want to be as we stand here united as one.

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

Kapatid, Kaibigan, Kababayan

You are my brother, sister, mother

I’ll be there by your side to hold you up

I’ll be by your side...

So hold on tightly, hang on I’ll be

There by your side and we’ll battle the tide together...

Together...

Don’t be scared we’ll

Soon be where we

All want to be as we stand here united as one.

We stand as one.
