KC helps feed the children
KC Concepcion has come to her own. She has now established her niche as a celebrity and is no longer known as simply Sharon Cuneta’s daughter. She has made her own name in films, For The First Time. She has also done it on TV and even before all those, also as a recording artist. Her CD, titled aka Cassandra has already released several hits. Then amidst all this activity, she is also at present one of the country’s top product endorsers and is an acknowledged fashion icon.
This is all very dreamy and KC can just simply rest on her laurels all her life. Not this girl though. Fame and the experience of growing up privileged have not in any way made her oblivious to the plight of others, most especially the children. KC takes her appointment as the United Nations World Food Program’s National Ambassador Against Hunger and is always in search of ways for her to help out. Part of her job is to create awareness about the many children suffering from hunger in Mindanao due to poverty or from being displaced from their homes through war or other calamities.
KC has been endorsing the trendy Bayo label for some years now and she has a few times expressed her desire to do her own collection but has never gotten around to doing it because of her tight schedule. In an inspired decision, Bayo told her that if she will come up with one, they will donate the proceeds to the World Food Program. That was all the encouragement she needed. Armed with her artworks and writings, the new designer sat down with the Bayo creative team and in no time at all had, YOU, a collection of hoodies and tees ready to sell.
So those of you out there who wish to somewhat channel KC’s fashion icon vibe, check out her World Food Program collection at Bayo. The hoodies are superb and come in four styles: The KC with the fairy logo and the military pockets; the Cassandra also with the fairy logo but more sporty; the Cookie with the Bayo deer and Ibong Adarna; and the Kristina with her own scribblings from Philosophy class. Neat T-shirts are also available and all of these help feed the children.
If you want to do more than contribute nutritious meals for school kids through your shopping, you may get more info about the WFP by going to www.wfp.org/donate/philippines or call 750-2561 local 2400.
Incidentally, the latest hit tune from aka Cassandra is the original composition, An Updated Version of Me. I also hope that Dooby Dooby Do will make it as a single. This is a South African hit given Tagalog lyrics by Joey de Leon, which, I think is the most commercial cut that puts the Paris-educated KC in touch with a wide market. It is also something that I am sure kids would love to sing. I also like her rendition of Joey Ayala’s anthemic Agila Haring Ibon and the sweet and wistful Ngiti Lang by Ryan Cayabyab.
Other cuts included are new originals like the first hit single Imposible and Breathe plus covers of Melt with You by Modern English, I Just Can’t Get Enough by Depeche Mode, Imagine by John Lennon, It Must Have Been Love by Roxette and what I am sure most people remember, a slow, laid-back version of Rihanna’s Umbrella.
