Body Talk with Will Devaughn

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

He is the hunk with a beautiful body (but, of course!) but has no hair. He’s a veritable eye-catcher. He’s in that McDonald commercial and in the one for Nesvita (with Chris Tiu and Derek Ramsay) and, very soon, in the highly-anticipated interactive website of JAG JEANS of which he has been an endorser, with no less than Marian Rivera as co-star.

You’ve met Will Devaughn, haven’t you? Maybe in the mall or...in the Internet as the guy at the receiving end of a girl’s personal service?

“Oh, that?” said Will. “Hahahaha! I should be more careful next time.”

The new JAG-JEANS.COM website thrusts you into the exciting world of JAG Black where you get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be the photographer of Will and Marian. The website allows you to click away as Will and Marian model the latest premium JAG Black. Yes, you control the camera.

Before he broke first into the modeling world and into television and then the movies, Will was at Anaheim, California, working as a waiter at a coffee shop in Disneyland, supporting himself through school (taking up a course on medical assistance). He was born in Germany to a Filipino father (surnamed Garcia) and a German mother (surnamed Devaughn). He was five years old when his stepfather, an American, decided to resettle in the States.

Four years ago, Will came to the Philippines to follow his girlfriend (Aubrey Miles’ cousin who briefly tried showbiz).

“She was the one who encouraged me to be a model,” said Will. “We have broken up since then.”

Describing himself as a free spirit, Will said that he learned everything about life by himself.

“A lot was lacking at home as I grew up. I learned from experience and from my friends...and from myself. I have a half-brother but no cousins and no uncles. I never asked my dad or my mom any questions.”

He first gained attention when he joined the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition. Besides Desperadas 2, Regal Films’ 2008 Metro Filmfest entry which also stars Marian (along with Ruffa Gutierrez, Iza Calzado, Rufa Mae Quinto and Ogie Alcasid in his first role as a woman), Will has just finished shooting Road Raiders, topbilled by Hollywood star Michael Madsen, and will star with Judy Ann Santos in the ABS-CBN soap Humingi Ako sa Langit (airing early next year). As a member of Cover Boys, he appears regularly on the ABS-CBN noontime show A.S.A.P. ‘08.

A Piscean (Feb. 27), Will stands 5’11”, weighs 162 lbs., has a 32-inch waistline, and wears medium-size shirt and briefs and size-11 shoes.

(Note: The following “body talk” includes excerpts from a previous similar interview with Marian Rivera.)

Is it hard to take care of a body like yours?

“Not really. It’s mostly genetic. To begin with, I’ve always been skinny and it’s hard for me to gain weight. If I don’t work out in the weight, I look so payat, like now.”

What workout do you do?

“I work out at the gym three or four times a week, 50 minutes each time. I lift weights, but never cardio exercises.”

(Marian: Aerobics and dancing.)

You seem to be a sun-lover. What outdoor sport do you like?

“Swimming on the beach, not really in the pool. At the moment, I’m taking up Arnis. I love it.”

You have such a perfect body. Is there any part that needs some improvement?

“My legs. They are kind of thin. I should do more squats. But the problem is that I have a torn ligament in my leg.”

(Marian: My thighs. They look big.)

What part is most vulnerable?

“My head. If I’m frustrated, I get a headache.”

(Marian: My eyes. They are sensitive. I am astigmatic. I wear contact lenses.)

And what part is your favorite?

“Probably my abs and my chest.”

(Marian: My butt.)

What part of a girl’s body do you look at first?

“The eyes and the calves.”

(Marian: What part of a guy’s body do I look at first? Not just one part but his whole body.)

Have you always been clean-shaven?

“Hmmmm. Not really. My being bald actually happened by accident. Kasi my stepdad, who has retired from the US military and is now living in Kuwait, would cut my hair and I never liked the haircut. One day, I decided to buy my own shaving kit, my own razor, and I started doing my own haircut.”

What kind of diet do you follow? Do you take three square meals a day?

“My diet is very magulo. I don’t eat on a regular time pattern because of my irregular schedule. Today, it’s 11:45 a.m. and I haven’t even had breakfast yet. I woke up and rushed straight to a pictorial. I live alone and sometimes I cook but it’s kind of malungkot eating alone. But I do take multi-vitamins and a supplement called Explode which I buy from GNC.”

(Marian: I eat anything, mostly Filipino food. Yes, I take three meals a day but just a little for dinner.)

What kind of food do you avoid?

“Pork. But the problem is that I just love crispy pata. I also love sisig and lasagna.”

How much water do you take per day?

“A lot. Six to seven bottles.”

(Marian: I’m a water person. I drink a lot of water. I seldom take soda or juices.)

Do you smoke?

“No, I don’t.”

Do you drink (liquor)?

“Occasionally. Only when I’m out with the barkada, (my fellow) Cover Boys Victor Basa, Jon Avila, Rafael Rosell, Ron Morales, Zanjoe Marudo.”

How much sleep do you get per night?

“It depends. If I don’t have work, I sleep for more than eight hours. But usually, only six hours.”

(Marian: These days, three to four hours. I take power naps.)

What’s your favorite sleep wear?

“Boxers, nothing else.”

(Marian: Boxers and spaghetti top.)

Do you ever sleep in the nude?

“It depends...kung may kasama. Hahahaha!”

What’s the last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“Brush my teeth and wash my face. And check my e-mail.”

(Marian: I thank God for all the blessings.)

And the first thing that you do when you wake up?

“Brush my teeth and wash my face. And check my e-mail.”

(Marian: I look at myself in the mirror.)

Do you snore?

“Hmmmm. Not that I know of.”

Do you talk in your sleep?

“My mom said I used to. And you know what, I moved a lot daw when I was asleep.”

Do you sleepwalk?

“Thank God, no!”

People in your kind of profession are “notorious” for their nightlife. How is yours?

“When I was just a model, sobra! Gabi-gabi gimik. Wild! That happened for one year straight. Very bad. Whatever was fun, whatever was new, I would go for it. No holding back. Talagang adventurous.”

No wonder you got into all sorts of (mis)adventures, like being videotaped with a Baywalk beauty.

“Grabe! My modeling days were sobrang wild talaga. But now, I hardly go out. I’m domesticated na.”

How’s your love life? Do you have a girlfriend?

“No, I don’t have any, not now when my life seems to be under the microscope. Concentrate muna ako sa career ko.”

And your sex life?

“Hmmmm. Kulang, not enough. Hahahaha!”

How do you cope with stress?

“I go to the spa and have a massage. Or I go to the beach and swim. I’m not anti-social but most of the time I’d rather be by myself.”

(Marian: I used to have a regular massage in the spa but now I hardly have time for it. I just listen to music, any kind of music.)

Favorite hideaway?

“Palawan.”

(Marian: Cavite, my hometown. My favorite city is Madrid where I spent part of my childhood. My father is Spaniard.)

What’s your outlook in life?

“I’m an optimist.”

(Marian: Positive. I’m a happy person.)

Your favorite fantasy figure?

“Salma Hayek. She’s gorgeous! I could spend forever with her stranded on an island.”

Name three women you think have nice bodies.

“Salma Hayek. Jessica Alba. And, of course, Marian Rivera.”

And three guys...

“Brad Pitt (in Fight Club). Daniel Craig. Christian Bale.”

Using only body language, how would you make a woman know that you like her?

“I look and look at her, and if she looks back, I give her my sweetest smile.”
