Is Roxanne here to stay?

The Philippine Star

With the influx of showbiz wannabes brought about by reality shows and talent searches, doing TV and the movies for five years is a feat.

Roxanne Guinoo, a product of ABS-CBN’s Star Teen Circle Quest (SCQ) and endorser of Get Laud!, has surpassed that mark and is here to stay.

“I’m grateful at the exposure I have received since my SCQ days,” says Roxanne. “I have gone through a lot in my career (from teeny-bopper to sultry White Castle model). I’m thankful that I’m still here.”

In half a decade, Roxanne has learned the ropes of the business and the realities that come with it.

“I used to be sensitive with what others say about me,” shares Roxanne. “You know, anybody’s criticisms and reactions with what I do. I have dealt with it by letting them talk and ignoring what they say, especially if there’s no truth in them. Sometimes, I use these comments in my work and to improve my craft.”

If there’s one lesson Roxanne will take with her even outside show business it is that patience is a virtue and it pays to wait for your turn.

“The management trusts me,” says Roxanne why she still gets to act on the small and big screens. “They believe in me and I trust my career in them.”

Roxanne’s diligence has given her projects every aspiring actress could wish for. From SCQ, she has shown her acting mettle on Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos? with Dina Bonnevie which became a vehicle for her to star her own drama afternoon soap Ligaw na Bulaklak. We have seen her doing action on Palos and drama-comedy in Now That I Have You, Can This Be Love and D’ Anothers.

Asked what’s her biggest break, Roxanne replies, “Hosting Wowowee. I was kind of the weakest link among the hosts, but I got by, by following every instruction to heart.”

But what the Banana Split star didn’t realize then is that she wowed televiewers with her energy and natural grace in hosting segments. TV and movie projects got in the way. She decided to put on hold her hosting chores and left the noontime show.

Roxanne says the biggest challenge in her career was doing Ligaw na Bulaklak because the show primarily relied on her name and talent. The show was somehow a test if Roxanne could make a dent in the ratings game which she did successfully.

What’s next for Roxanne? There’s the upcoming canned show Florinda. She is also busy promoting the clothing line Get Laud! known for trendy, quality and affordable pieces for women. Get Laud! has been dressing Roxanne up from her Wowowee days. The brand has made Roxanne look good and feel confident all the time.

If you want to know what Roxanne exactly means, visit Get Laud! stores in Alabang Town Center, SM Malls, Market! Market!, Festival Mall, Metropoint Mall, Farmer’s Plaza, Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall and Robinsons Metro East.

“I want to become a character actress,” concludes Roxanne. “Why? Because I could do more roles. It will test the actress in me. Besides, many people have a high regard for character actresses. Although I have shown some sexiness on screen, I have no plans of venturing into the bold genre.”
