Imago adopts a new sound

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil -

Now what is a band like Imago doing singing the virtues of nail polish? Well, for one, the group has become very commercial. Its change of sound from folk rock to pop rock has given it a hip, young image that advertisers like. I recall them plugging for Head and Shoulders shampoo a year or two ago.  Then there was also the jingle for the fastfood chain Tokyo Tokyo. So singing for nail polish should not come as a shock.

Then, it turns out that Caronia, which I am sure we all think of as a nail polish brand, has now expanded to other areas of foot and hand care. More so, it has come to embody coveted modern-day qualities like being fit, sexy, confident and glamorous.  Having the right nail polish results in a finished look and when a girl looks right, it is also easier to attain those goals. So to make the trip more pleasant and entertaining, Caronia now also provides an Imago song that serves as the right fun soundtrack.

Composed by Imago lead singer Aia de Leon, whose sweet vocals is the band’s distinguishing feature, the song is titled Sharing Your Passions and it is all about, what else, colors, bright, beautiful colors for your fingertips by Caronia. It goes... You can take on the world/ and chase all your dreams/ be anything you want/ and say what you mean/ you’ve got a heart on fire/ to make it everyday/ and it’s clear in your mind/ what you want to say...

What’s it all about? I’m wearing all my colors/ how I love my colors/ I’m sharing all my passions/ yes I love my colors/ I’m painting my whole world/ I love my colors/ I’m sharing all my passions/ I love my colors... And Caronia, which was the first nail polish brand to cater to Filipino women with premium quality at affordable prices certainly has all the colors a girl may need to express her passions.

Imago is one of today’s hottest bands in the country. It is made up of Aia on vocals; Tim Cacho, lead guitar; Myrene Academia, bass guitar; and Zach Lucero, drums.  It has recorded three albums, Probably Not But Most Definitely, Take 2 and the latest Blush. The latter is Imago’s first certified Gold seller thanks to the single Taralets. Other hit songs by Imago are Sundo, Walang Misteryo, Akap, Spolarium, Anino, Ewan and Under Repair.

From the mail: Apolonio Ramos of Filipinas Village, Marikina, wants to listen to Tina Arena.  “I read your article about Ms. Tina Arena in today’s issue of The Philippine Star. From your description of her singing ability I have already concluded that she is that special. Her repertoire covers a wide range of favorites, as in her recent album Songs of Love and Loss. I cannot wait to listen to the pieces in this album and the other collectibles she has come out with.

“I will be deeply gratified if you may please send me a list of albums and songs she has recorded, together with the source and cost of acquiring them.”

Thank you for writing Mr. Ramos. I am happy to know of your interest in Tina Arena. The girl sings with so much feeling and has a uniquely powerful voice that our birit queens can learn a lot from.  If I remember right Tina’s CDs Don’t Ask and In Deep were also released in the Philippines some years ago.  Don’t Ask has her first big hit Chains plus Heaven Help My Heart, Show Me Heaven and That’s the Way a Woman Feels.

In Deep, which came later has the even bigger selling Burn as well as Flashback, her cover of Foreigner’s I Want to Know What Love Is and her duet with Marc Anthony of the theme from the movie Zorro, I’ll Stay Forever Loving You. Songs of Love and Loss is also available locally. As for the French recordings, of which there are a lot, your best bet would be to get somebody going to France to buy them for you or get them from the on-line store Amazon.
