Theirs is undoubtedly one of the most successful young love teams in local showbiz today. After their potential as a tandem was discovered on TV in the ABS-CBN soap series, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo went on to appear in one hit teleserye after another.
Their popularity was reinforced by two other drama series, It Might Be You and Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin. Set to start taping in June is a new teleserye which will also star former Pinoy Big Brother Fil-American housemate Sam Milby.
John Lloyd and Bea have likewise proven their strong box-office muscle in feel-good films like My First Romance, Now That I Have You and Close To You (Star Cinemas blockbuster shown only last February). They have apparently caught the fancy of movie fans who get endlessly thrilled with the news about their latest starrer and clamor to see more of them on the big screen.
As it appears, theres no stopping the most sought-after love team from conquering the tills. And each time they work together anew, on TV or the movies, they never fail to reinvent themselves in the characters that they play.
They form part of the trilogy in Star Cinemas latest offering, All About Love, which also stars two other young pairs Anne Curtis and Luis Manzano; Angelica Panganiban and Jason Abalos. The film is a three-in-one special "Valentines Day in May" package, marking the film outfits 13th anniversary.
When John Lloyd and Bea were first paired, they were initially described as an "unlikely love team." But through many TV and film projects, they have proven the critics wrong by establishing themselves as todays young love team to beat.
"Id like to believe that were more mature now as a love team," Bea maintains. "We didnt start out this way, but were a lot comfortable now with each other. We are good friends. Thats very important when you work together."
One good thing about John Lloyd and Bea is that they never pretended to be real lovers off camera, even if their on-screen romance looks really convincing.
"Our relationship is anchored on friendship," John Lloyd offers. "Love team is only a packaging pwedeng masira after some time. But friendship is more personal at hindi pwedeng mawala. Its something I can take with me kahit matanda na ko."
All About Love is a romantic trilogy that will see John Lloyd and Bea in more serious roles, compared to their previous starrers. The episode, About Ana, is megged by Jerry Sineneng, who believes in the chemistry of his two lead stars.
"Its my first time to work with John Lloyd and Bea but I readily saw their talent as actors and Im confident with them," direk Jerry says. "Our episode is at par with the other two. Medyo dramatic yung sa amin and you will see acting highlights from both stars."
John Lloyd will get to prove anew in All About Love how he has turned into one of the countrys premier leading men and todays finest young actors man, with his high-caliber acting. He lives up to expectations with this film, where he plays Eric, a guy who is embittered by love because of his girlfriends unexpected death.
"We are thankful to Star Cinema for giving us good projects where we can show our talent to act through more serious and more mature roles," John Lloyd allows. "We trust Star Cinema for giving us projects that also complement our career paths. With the roles that we play in this movie, we can gear up for more adult characters in future film projects."
Bea, meanwhile, adds that theyre happy to support Angelica, Jason, Luis and Anne in their first major movie project as love teams. "Gusto lang naming ibalik ang tulong that was given to us when we were also starting out as a love team."
Bea proves over and over again her depth as an actress, notwithstanding her young age, as she plays Lia, a bride-to-be who catches her fiancé in bed with another girl a month before her wedding.
The two characters prove that misery loves company and they can make two broken-hearted people fall in love the second time around.
The decision of Star Cinema to cast John Lloyd and Bea in another film was prompted by the clamor from fans from all over the world to have a follow up to the love teams highly successful Close To You. In All About Love, the two carry the banner for the latest romantic trilogy from the film production arm of ABS-CBN.
Opening May 31, All About Love features two other episodes. The one with Luis and Anne, Kalesa, is directed by Joyce Bernal, while the Angelica-Jason starrer, Promdi, has Gilbert Perez at the helm.
