Finalists in the MTV Video Awards 2005

The list of nominees to the Fifth MTV Pilipinas 2005 Video Music Awards is out. On top is Rivermaya with four nominations, three for You’ll Be Safe Here and one for Balisong followed by Artstrong, Kitchie Nadal, Kjwan and the Radioactive Sago Project with three nods each.

The winners will be announced in a spectacular show that will be held at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday, Aug. 25. The theme will be A Night at the Boxing Ring because the contenders are all considered OPM heavyweights. And MTV promises to gather the biggest and the hottest celebrities under the Big Dome on that evening. But before that happens there is the voting to be done.

Check out the nominees and pick your favorites. If you want them to win at the MTV Pilipinas 2005 People’s Choice Awards, then you have to make that effort and vote for them. Here are the nominees:

Favorite New Artist:
Hale, Broken Sonnet; Juan Pablo Dream, Nice Place; Kitchie Nadal, Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin; Kjwan, Daliri; and Urbandub, A New Tattoo.

Favorite Female Artist:
Arnee, Araw Gabi; Kitchie Nadal, Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin; Kyla, If the Feeling is Gone; Nina, I Don’t Want to be Your Friend; and Rachelle Ann Go, Love of My Life.

Favorite Male Artist:
Artstrong, Jazzy Monday; Christian Bautista, Hands to Heaven; Erik Santos, Pagbigyang Muli; Luke Mejares, 214; and Paolo Santos, Coffee Cup.

Favorite Group:
Bamboo, Masaya; Radioactive Sago Project, Astro; Rivermaya, You’ll Be Safe Here; Session Road, Suntok sa Buwan; and Sugarfree, Hari ng Sablay.

Favorite Song:
Balisong by Rivermaya; Hari ng Sablay by Sugarfree; Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin by Kitchie Nadal; Itsumo by Dice & K9; and Two Trick Pony by Sandwich.

You have until Aug. 21 to vote and there are four easy ways by which you may cast your votes. These are the following: 1. SMS: Exclusive to SMART subscribers text VOTE to 688. 2. E-mail: send to mtvpilipinas05mtv-asia.com 3. Online: log on to www.pinoyexchange.com/mtv. 4. Via ballots. Look for them in the August issue of MTV Ink.

Also up for grabs are three jury awards for Best Indie Video, Best Director and Best Video. These will be chosen by an exclusive committee composed of respected figures in the local entertainment industry who are experts in the fields of music, film, art, photography, journalism, fashion and advertising. The nominees are:

Best Indie Video:
Epekto by Monsterbot; Forever Young by the Valley of Chrome; Just Like a Splendid Love Song by Orange and Lemons; Nice Place by Juan Pablo Dream; and Song No.9 by Dip.

Best Director:
Boom Dayupay, Jazzy Monday by Artstrong; Diego Castillo, DV by Cambio; Marie Jamora, Daliri by Kjwan; Pedring Lopez, You’ll Be Safe Here by Rivermaya; and RA Rivera, Astro by Radioactive Sago Project.

Best Video:
Astro by Radioactive Sago Project; Daliri by Kjwan; DV by Cambio; Jazzy Monday by Artstrong; and You’ll Be Safe Here by Rivermaya.

If you want help in making your decision as to which ones to vote for, then you might want to catch the nominees when they visit the malls together with MTV VJs. These will be at SM Megamall on Sunday, Aug. 7 and at SM City North EDSA on Friday, Aug. 12. There are also voting parties scheduled on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. at Gweilo’s in Eastwood City and at 6 Underground in C. Palanca St. Makati on Friday, Aug. 19.
