Thanks for the spoof, Joey

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -
I don’t understand a newspaper columnist’s puzzlement as to why Joey de Leon is spoofing a morning talk show and its host. He is obviously referring to me and Homeboy, my morning talk show on ABS-CBN Channel 2.

He says that Joey is more senior and more popular and thinks that it’s the morning talk show host who should spoof Joey.

I’m lost.

Does doing spoofs have anything to do with who is the veteran and who is the starlet? Of course, the starlet is me. Para lang kasalanan ko pa that I’m being spoofed. I’m confused.

It’s as if I begged to be spoofed. And I don’t do spoofs. Joey does and he does them well.

People have asked me what my reaction is to Joey de Leon’s spoofing me and Homeboy.

I say I am amused, fascinated and entertained. There are two people whose opinion I value – my mother and my partner Bong Quintana. Both think Joey is funny. That’s all that matters to me. I’m no comedian but if I were and had the talent of Joey de Leon, I would probably do the same – spoof me! My only wish is that Joey adds more hair to Boy Aganda.

Everything is fine. Honestly, It’s actually flattering that Joey and his staff go to great lengths to spoof me and Homeboy, a fledgling show. Kris Aquino, my soul sister, thinks the same.

Thanks, Joey.
Heavenly Dining
Let’s talk about heaven and the exciting world of eggs. No pun intended.

There is something heavenly about dining in Tomas Morato Avenue. A new restaurant has just been added to the strip. It’s called Heaven ‘N Eggs. Its coming to the restaurant scene has filled the industry’s need for a restaurant that serves international-quality breakfast dishes, pancakes, waffles, soups and salad, sandwiches, pastas and other delicious meat and seafood entrees, available any time of the day.

The name speaks for itself: Heaven ’N Eggs is all about eggs (think pancakes, waffles, bagels, omelets, scrambles, etc. etc.) and, well, "heaven" which basically includes any dish that beckons one to close one’s eyes in heavenly relish.

The menu is just magical. For appetizers, you could choose from Pinoy Nachos, Deepfried Calamari, Seafood Basket, Asian Shrimp Poppers, Beef Tapas and lots more. Next in the list are Soups and Salads: try their Garden Salad with Shrimps and Mandarin Oranges or their Crabmeat and Bacon or the Roasted Garlic and Tomato. That’s just the start of your food adventure.

Whetting your appetite more are dishes of steak and eggs, heavenly omelets and other egg classics: Heaven’s Meatloaf and Bacon Big Plate, Bagel Benedict, Crab and Salmon Benedict, Country-Fried Chicken Steak and Eggs, Tuna Steak and Eggs, Grandma’s Burger Steak with Egg, Grilled Vegetables and Pesto Omelet, Three Mushrooms Omelet… and did you know that Frank Sinatra has a recipe for omelet? The Sinatra’s Steak Omelet. It is aside from Elvis’ (yes, Presley) Ham and Cheese and Rock.

For the discriminating Pinoy taste, Heaven ’N Eggs’ dishes are full of flavor – Vigan Longganiza, Salt and Pepper Pork Ribs, US-Tenderloin Bistek Filipino, Adobo Flakes, Mixed Seafood Tempura Plate, Vietnamese Pork BBQ with Shrimp Fried Rice, Cebuano Danggit Slammer, Bacon-wrapped Camaron Rebosado with Blue Cheese Sauce… and lots more.

A visit to Heaven ’N Eggs is actually like a virtual stay in heaven as, complementing the celestial food, the interior is made up of a wall with a drawn-up sky complete with dreamy clouds, a ceiling with cute, cherubic angels and seats and tables that make you think you are in a country house porch overlooking the sky above.

The design of the 180-square meter area, which can comfortably sit 60 people, is courtesy of Architect Calina Prieto.

Open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 12 midnight and located at CKB Building in Tomas Morato, Quezon City, heavenly dishes await the patrons of Heaven ’N Eggs. You may call 376-2674 for inquiries.
