Body talk with Allen Dizon

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
Posing at the poolside of The Pearl Manila Hotel under the mid-afternoon sun, Viva Hot Man Allen Dizon with his "oiled" body glistened like a kayumangging kaligatan Greek god. He arrived 30 minutes late for the pictorial because he came all the way from Barrio Sta. Ana, San Fernando, Pampanga, and he had to make a quick trip to the department store to buy trunks and boxer shorts before fetching his manager and the make-up artist on his way to the hotel so nicely located (near the corner of UN Avenue and Taft Avenue, right beside the Medical Center Manila and a block away from the Emilio Aguinaldo College) that it’s accessible by foot to eateries, SM Manila, the Manila Cathedral, etc.

The fourth macho man (after Marc Nelson, Jericho Rosales and Troy Montero) to be pinned down for Funfare’s broken "Body Talk" series, Allen stands 5’10", weighs 165 lbs., and wears size 30-32 underwear, size 10 shoes, and medium shirts.

At 25, Allen has proven that he is more than a beautiful body in such movies as Molata (as a cop who solves the mystery in a series of murders), Mama-San (as Elizabeth Oropeza’s dim-witted lover) and Trip (his personal favorite, as a macho dancer mistaken by Heart Evangelista and John Prats for a gay).

Although he has been in showbiz for five years, Allen has remained a probinsyano at heart, preferring to stay in his native Pampanga (far from the madding crowd) where he can be himself, away from tsismis and intrigues (of which he has had his unfair share), and secure in the company of his childhood neighbors and barkada.

It didn’t take Viva much effort to convince Allen to join the Viva Hot Men.

"I want to try something new," said Allen who acts as the leader of the 11-member VHM. "Not many people know that I can sing and dance. I was never able to use these talents in the movies; it’s only now that I’m with the VHM."

A Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) graduate from De Ocampo Memorial College, Allen wondered aloud how it is to manage a hotel like The Pearl Manila which offers, besides the amenities already mentioned, a buffet of mouth-watering goodies at its 9th-floor dining area. (For inquiries about booking, etc., call 400-0088.)

"It has been my dream to manage, if not own, a hotel or a restaurant," added Allen.

And as Allen consumed a plateful of Caesar’s Salad, Funfare asked him the same set of questions answered by the previous "Body Talkers."

How did you get such a beautiful body?

"Through regular workout and proper diet."

Was there a time when you got fat?

"I do – when I stop working out. Sometimes, I’d go as heavy as 185 lbs. Malakas akong kumain, e! For my height, my ideal weight is 165 lbs."

What kind of diet do you follow?

"Protein diet for at least one month and then I switch to vegetable diet for another month. I avoid fats – taba ng baboy, taba ng baka."

How many glasses of liquid (water and/or juices) do you take everyday?

"Eight to 10. When I’m working out, I take even more."

What kind of workout do you do?

"More of light weights, sit-ups. Three to four times a week in the gym, near our house in San Fernando. No, I don’t work out at home. It’s boring. Mas enjoy ako mag-workout pag may kasabay."

What about sports?

"Basketball, tennis and volleyball."

How much sleep do you get everyday?

"Eight hours of sleep. Less than that, I’m drowsy the whole day and grumpy. I also get headaches (migraine). Mainit ang ulo ko; wala sa mood."

How do you make up for lack of sleep?

"I stay in bed the whole day, not really sleeping. I just close my eyes and relax, let my mind float. Watching TV or listening to the radio helps put you to sleep."

What about nightlife?

"Before, mahilig ako. But now, I’d rather stay home, Videoke kami, you know. Or have a few drinks with friends. Just a few. I used to be a hard drinker. Now, hanggang San Mig Light na lang."

What about vitamins and minerals?

"I take Vitamin E, Ginseng and multi-vitamins (Appebon)."

Do you apply anything on your face?

"No, I don’t. As soon as I remove my make-up, I just scrub my face a bit."

What about outlook in life? Are you an optimist or a worrier?

"A worrier. I don’t know why but I tend to look at the negative side of life. That’s the Libra (Oct. 3) in me. Negative thinker ako."

How do you cope with stress?

"I go out of town – by myself. I just drive on and on. I go to the beach and just enjoy nature. I’m a nature-tripper."

What’s the most vulnerable part of your body?

"My head. And my eyes."

How do you relieve the pain?

"Sometimes, I take Advil. But the doctor advised me to stay in a dark room with your eyes open. Basta, tumingin lang daw sa dilim. It’s effective. Soon, the pain is gone."

Which part of your body is your favorite?

"My butt. Matambok, e!"

Any part of your body you want changed or improved on?

"My tummy. I want it trimmer. Medyo may bilbil, but only very slight. That’s why I do a lot of crunches and sit-ups."

Do you have a love life?

"Yes, I have. Okay lang."

What about your sex life?

"Satisfactory. So far, so good."

Are you vain like most good-looking guys?

"No, I’m not."

How much time do you spend in front of the mirror?

"Not so much."

How long does it take you to fix yourself?

"Fast. Very fast! Five to 10 minutes and I’m off. The longest that I stay in the shower is 30 minutes."

Are you conscious that you’re good-looking?

"No, I’m not."

Do you sleep in the nude?

"No. I sleep in boxer shorts, no underwear and top."

Name three actresses with a body as beautiful as yours.

"Halle Berry. Kristine Hermosa. Myles Hernandez (a Viva Hot Babe)."

And three actors...

"Troy Montero. Pierce Brosnan. Tom Cruise."

Using body language, how would you tell a girl that you like her?

"Eye contact. Dinadaan ko sa tingin. Nakaw-tingin."
