Ayen comes full circle

There’s a difference between right and real. Though most people settle for someone who is "real" and not for the "elusive right" one. It doesn’t hurt to follow your heart in search for Mr. Right.

Ayen Munji-Laurel had a fairy tale-ish love affair every girl could only dream about. It didn’t quite pass the "they lived happily ever after" standard, but her love life didn’t end right after that dreamy phase.

Her marriage to a real life prince ended in divorce, a divorce that she asked for. Wanting to be free from her gilded cage, Ayen return to the Philippines to find her peace and happiness. And she did.

When singer Franco Laurel entered her life, Ayen knew she had found her "right" prince. Today, she is four months pregnant with their first child and she just launched an album which showcases her musical talent..

Her self-titled album, Ayen is composed of 15 ballads all about love, including a bonus track of Miss Kita Kung Christmas.

An artist will always be an artist. In this album, Ayen melds styles, techniques and technologies that have not been tapped in local recording.

Ayen describes her album as "mood music".

"It’s easy listening na pop," she says enthusiastically. One thing‘s for sure – you’ll surely love listening to the songs in this expensive-looking album.

The first track, Bawat Gabi, is a poignant love song about a relationship that cannot be consummated. It has an MTV that is very well crafted. It effectively blends the splendor of the royal lifestyle and the divinity of a mythical goddess.

With a rich voice, Ayen effectively lends emotions to her songs in the album. This is most evident in Pag-ibig Lang, a song by Gary Granada about, well, love.

The CD has two duets. Not While I’m Around, with Martin Nievera has Ayen "pitting" and complementing voices with the concert king. The second duet. Nasa Iyo Na, with Franco Laurel is a narrative of the love they have for each other.

Other songs in the album are One Last Goodbye, Pain In My Heart, Laging Mayroong Bukas, You’re My Everything (Tagalog version), No Words, Kailan, Higher And Brighter, Nagkataon, Nagkatagpo, Here In My Heart, and When I Look In Your Eyes.

It’s a good collection which, indeed, proves that Ayen has got the talent. Her training in classical music helped her render the songs so fluidly.

"It’s reminiscent of the sound of the ‘80s with a touch of the ’90s," Ayen says. "Gusto kong ibalik ‘yung sound ng music ni Joey Albert".

With her album, Ayen’s life is now in full circle. She finally found the right prince for her, a happy family, soon-to-be-born baby and a promising musical career.

If you look into her eyes, you’d see that she’s all set to live "happily ever after."
