November 11, 2001 | 12:00am
PULPs latest issue, which hits the stores this week, zeroes in on the countrys most resilient band, Rivermaya, whose hitmaking, concert-drawing status remains solid even after a series of career challenges and line-up changes.
The issue also sheds light on the "indie" way of making albums with the poster group for the "do-it-yourself" method, Pin-Up Girls. It also takes a trippy look at the rock n roll lifestyle, as embodied by the wild bunch of blues-rooted rockers, the Blue Jean Junkies.
Regular columns like I Wanna Be a Rock Star and Metro Kat and the reviews provide music and gimmick information while other standard sections like the Letters, Juicy Bits and the Comics pages provide a glimpse of this generations psyche.
PULP also offers exclusive news and interviews with DJ Nick Warren of Way Out West, the upcoming hardcore/new metal band Mudvayne, a Q&A with garbage singer Shirley Manson, and a tribute to late R&B star Aaliyah. This issue also reintroduces the Paraphernaliac section featuring choice gadgets for the discerning consumers, and revamps the fashion section with the new PULP style the ultimate urban guide to looking good and getting in style.
Also unveiled this month is the teaser to PULP Skin, a section that takes sexuality is still considered taboo in this day and age with a grain of salt and without the veil of hypocrisy and malice. PULPs new approach, anchored on its new overall look, focuses on contemporary pop culture and various music and lifestyle choices, making it a total music magazine of the rock n roll ethos for intelligent readers.
PULP then holds the first PULP Music Awards as it celebrates its second year with the biggest open-air birthday bash/concert on Dec. 8 at The Fort. Find out why, after just two years in the market, PULP is still the biggest, loudest and the only real music magazine and credible source of music-related information in the country. The anniversary celebration called The Freakshow is a free-for-all concert featuring top bands, presented by Lee, Trust Quality Condoms, Red Horse, Hidden Spring Mineral Water, Viva Entertainment and ZED, in cooperation with Smint, MTV Ink, Fujifilms, and Carls Jr.
