NMs Roque, Ganzon shine in CEPCA weekly online blitz
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano National Masters Merben Roque and Rommel Ganzon shared the spotlight in the Alex Chua Super Blitz 9 spearheaded by the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA).
They completed the 15-round Swiss system competition with identical 13.5 points but Roque grabbed the top spot by virtue of a higher tie-breaker.
FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri of Escalante City, Negros Occidental tallied 13.0 points to wind up third in the virtual tournament sponsored by US-based Cepcan Engr. Alex Chua, a nursing administrator of Fidelity Health Care Nursing Home in Los Angeles, California.
Rounding up the top seven were Sherwin Tiu and Jesurie Calabia of Manila, Bhell Ortiz of Lapu-Lapu City, and Andrew Casiano of Catarman, Samar.
On the other hand, the top three Cebuano finishers were Ariel Abellana, Michael Joseph Pagaran, and Edsel Montoya, Jasper Montejo and NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr. were the top Cepcans A, while Norman Ilayvar and Richard Ouano came out as top Cepcans B.
The best female performer was Sheila Khan Sepanton, while Archt. Fil Kapuno III topped the Prexy Jerry Arena. — EBV
