Rockets to trade Westbrook to Wizards for Wall

The Freeman

The Houston Rockets have granted Russell Westbrook’s wish to transfer to another team.

As per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Rockets have agreed to trade Westbrook to the Washington Wizards in exchange for John Wall and a first-round pick.

The Wizards will be Westbrook’s third NBA team in as many seasons. The move also reunited the 2016-2017 MVP with Wizards coach Scott Brooks. They were together with the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008 to 2015.

After 11 seasons with OKC, the 32-Westbrook changed address to Houston in a player swap that sent Chris Paul to the Thunder in 2019.

Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion, averaged 27.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists during the pandemic-hit season. He has 146 career triple-doubles, which ranks second all-time behind Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson’s 181.

Wall, on the other hand, played all his nine years with the Wizards, who made him the No.1 overall pick in the 2011 Draft.

The 30-year-old Wall, however, missed the entire 2019-20 campaign with a series of injuries to his left heel and Achilles tendon. Overall in his career, the five-time All-Star guard normed 19.0 points, 9.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. — EBV
