God is in Control of Everything

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

Do you sometimes wonder why things are overwhelming and you ask God why He allows these things to happen?

In the book “Living Water 2009” someone shares: “My husband and I knelt at the side of our bed and opened our Bible to the book of Tobit. With linked hands and hearts, we read the prayer in Chapter 8 and fervently made our request to the Lord. We wanted to have a child. We married late and I just had a miscarriage. We knew it was up to the Lord, but we also knew that ‘by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be known to God’ (Philippians 4:6).

“A year later, I gave birth to a robust, healthy, eight-pound-and-two-ounce baby boy whom we named Paul. Nothing is impossible with God. Incidentally, two years after, God blessed us with a bubbly baby girl whom we called Grace.

“Many things are out of our control. The good news is that God is in control. Our heavenly Father who loves us immensely wants to give us all good things…”

There are times in my life when the odds are against me, I could not help but being carried away. Pain and hurt would immerse in every fiber of my inner being. In such moments I would remind myself that God is in control of everything that happens in this world. I would talk to God and say, “Lord give me the grace to be patient and understanding. If it is in this manner that You remind me that in this world trials and tribulations are part of life, then just be with me all the way.”

Mark Altrogge of the blazing center website writes: “Again and again the Bible teaches and affirms that God is in control of all things. He is sovereign over all things…” And Altrogge points out the following glorious realities that we must bear in mind:

• Because God is in control we can trust God in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).  God doesn’t promise us that we will never go through hard times. But He promises us that he himself, Lord of the universe will be right there with us to strengthen, keep and protect us, because He is in control.  Our circumstances will not overwhelm us, no matter how difficult it may be.

• Because God is in control we can pray in faith. God’s arm is not too short to save. Nothing is impossible with God. Knowing this, we can keep praying, no matter how impossible the situation seems to be.

• Because God is in control we can trust that He is working all things for our good. We can’t always see how something hard and painful can work for our good, but God promises he is doing that. In the meantime, we need to trust that because God is in control He will work out all that we are going through for our good and glory.

• Because God is in control we can trust that He will give us the grace for all we go through. He will not give us one ounce more that we can bear. With His help we can go through the dark tunnel.
