CEBU, Philippines — Rogelio Enriquez Jr. completed a historic four-peat in the annual Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association tournament last Sunday at the Cebu Royal Estate residence of CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas in Consolacion, Cebu.

During the grand finals also known as the "Battle of Champions" culminating CEPCA's year-round tilt, the 46-year-old Enriquez, head coach of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) chess varsity team, garnered the highest score of 10.0 points to take home the title for the fourth consecutive time.

Dominador Salazar Jr. placed second with 9.0 points, while Neal Amores, Percival Fiel and Joselito Loquez took the third to fifth spots with 8.0 points each.

Round up the top nine finishers were National Master Arnold Cadiz with 7.5 points, Mario Bustillo with 5.0 points, Joel Atillo with 4.5 points and Edilberto Velarde with 3.0 points.

In the non-qualifiers, Ruel Hortelano took the top honors with 5.0 points, while Ramil Fernandez and Jonathan Canque placed second and third with 3.5 points.

Completing the top five were Armando Baria and Vince de la Torre with 3.0 points each.

Meanwhile, Stephen Rosales (businessman) and Melody Garcia (Japan-based English teacher) were formally inducted as newest members of the growing CEPCA family.

The three-in-one event was made possible through the support of Engr. Jerry Maratas, JVCC Construction, JK Lechon and E. Velarde Construction. (FREEMAN)
