Unit V, Unit VI, UC take CCO lead

CEBU, Philippines —  Unit V, Unit VI and University of Cebu grab the lead in their respective division of the 28th Cebu City Olympics.

 

Unit V topped the elementary division with 18 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze medals followed by Unit I with 15-8-10 (gold-silver-bronze) while Unit IV and Unit VIII are tied at third place with 7-6-9.

Unit V's Rhome Ian Zenon won the gold in the floor exercise category of the men's artistic gymnastics while Jerome Caberte (lightweight 54-56kg) bagged a gold in boxing.

Unit VI, on the other hand, top the high school division with 10-5-3 followed by Unit IV with 9-8-13 and Unit-IX with 4-6-3

In the battle of CESAFI teams, UC ruled the elementary and secondary divisions.

UC garnered 18 gold, 11 silver and six bronze medals in the medal count in the elementary  followed by USC with 4-12-13 and SWU with two gold medals.

UC is on top with 27-31-22, while the University of San Carlos is at second place with 15-19-10 while Unit-VI is at third place with 10-5-13 at the secondary.

In the last day of the athletics event, UC athletes Crystal Villanueva (triple jump), Hera Pino (100m), Josie Inemedo (400m) and Martchan Torregosa top their events in the individual category. The UC athletics team also won the gold in the boys 4x100m relay and  4x400m relay.

In archery, Khalin Abella bagged eight gold medals (30m, 40m, 50m, fita round, olympic round and mixed team) in the recurved category for UC. While Justine Abella  also contributed two gold (30m and 70m) from the recurved category while Jasper Abella added a gold in the mixed team event with partner Khalin.

The UC table tennis team, meanwhile, swept the secondary division.
